View Full Version : Dolby Digital Low Sound Level??

Ok, I know that there is a small part in the sticky talking about why the level might be low for an AC3 stream. However, my question is a little bit different. I have tried the stereo-->6 channel guide found in the sticky. It works good for me except for two problems.

I have tried this guide using both SoftEncode for Dolby Digital and also tried encoding to DTS. The problem is that the DD song sounds quieter than the DTS (and original stereo) songs. Am I doing something wrong. I put all three songs on the same cd and the stereo and DTS songs were about the same volume while the DD song was quite a bit quieter...?

The second problem is related to when I use SoftEncode to encode the 6 wav files into a Dolby Digital stream. When I open the 6channel wav file, I'm not sure which audio stream goes to which channel. I know for sure that the default is incorrect because it puts the LFE channel into one of the rear channels. Any help with using SoftEncode with this?

Any help or links for either of these problems would be greatly appreciated!

This is normal.

0db reference level for DTS is higher than Dolby, can't remember by how much though...
