Hi Gang
I am trying to shrink a DVD that I created.
Music Video CD

Well my problem is really simple but I am sure there is no easy way around it.
I have DVD shrink 2.3 and DVD Shrink 3.0 Beta 5
Both programs throw up this error

DVD Shrink encountered an error and cannot continue.
The error is:

Cannot decrypt VOBS

The reason is: Unknown

The DVD file plays fine ( and in Sync :D ) but is still too big to fit on a hard DVD ( a little over 6 gig) I was hoping DVD Shrink could knock it down that far but I get that error.

DVD file was created in this manner:

Video capture: Leadtech A250 with Winfast PVR
Saved as an uncompressed AVI.

Used TMPGEnc Plus 2.5 Use Clip frame to clean up video edges.

Changed Bit rate setting to attempt to make the file smaller to start with ( I tried DVD Shrink with out doing this step and DVD srink couldnt make it small enough to fit on disc).

Used TMPGEnc DVD Author for Chapter Cut Edit, Ctreate Menu and to Finalize Disc and create the DVD folder and VIDEO_TS, AUDIO_TS folders. And of couse, the DVD files.
My question is, is there a work around for this error?
Or am I going to have to make this thing a Multi Disc set?

Hope that was enough Info, thats just about everything I know.

@Aardil

Welcome to the forum! :D

Hmmm...try using SmartRipper to decrypt your files. SmartRipper has an advantage over DVD Decrypter because it can rip from the harddrive. Anyway, open it and use the top right folder icon to browse to your source folder.

Thanks for the reply, I will keep it in mind.

I started over and didnt change the bit rate so the file is now over 8 gig.

I tried Shrink 2.3 again and 3 beta, Beta still throws the error but 2.3 is shrinking the DVD :D

It is still out of DVD spec but only by 5%, I read somewhere on the boards that it is possible to compress again using Shrink, so I may have it worked out.
Will post back when I have a working Hard DVD

Aardil, the "Cannot decrypt VOBs" is due to DVD Author "flagging" the files as copy-protected (even though they're not).
This confuses v3.0b. ;)

This isssue is fixed in v3.1, coming out in less than a week. :)

Just reporting back in.
The double shrinking did give me a working Hard DVD.
But video clarity lost a bit more than I would like.
I figure I can make a 2 DVD set out of it and make the video better quality. There for I will only have to shrink once and only about 30%, the second disc needs less than 20% shrink :D
Again thanks for your help and I cant wait for Beta 3.1

With version 2.4 perhaps? 3+ only works from DVD (or ISO using DAEMON Tools).
