Wanked, you are a wanker. Freaking read what the guy said. Do a search. I find quite a bit when I search for "subtitle avi". Also, read the last post. It says look at the current active thread on EXACTLY WHAT YOU ARE TALKING ABOUT. Don't be gey. Use your eyes.

i see 5 possiblities here:
1) did really not understand thread
2) wanted to say "for" instead "from" an avifile
3) wants to create (type) new subtitles from the audio of an avi
4) somehow thinks there were a readymade soft subtitles somewhere hidden in a avi, that he could rip.
5)i dont understand neither

Oh yeah! Why you didn't said that in your first post? Is it too hard to write 'audio' or 'sound' or similar...
So, you want some kind of speech recognition? It's of course discussed here couple times. This is still not possible in acceptable quality, just to say in advance.

w/o speech recognition, just type translation of what you hear, there are a couple of options. To create simple format subtitles (SRT etc) take Subtitle Workshop (http://urusoft.cjb.net/) or Toff's brand new VisualSubSync (http://corecodec.org/projects/visualsubsync/), to get SSA, take Sub Station Alpha, for USF take mine, u96 (http://corecodec.org/projects/u96/) (USF is not muxable as softsub yet, but you can convert to SSA or SRT).
To get started, subtitle workshop is probably the easiest way and are lots of people who know it and therefore can help. VisualSubSync is maybe even easier to use, very basic, but it is probably too new to get help by users easily.
