View Full Version : DVD Shrink and freezing movies

I'm using DVD Shrink (2.3 since I just found 3 Beta 5) and for some reason about half way through the movie, the movie starts freezing. I'm using a Pio 106 burner and Memorex DVD-R 4x media (I think). Typically I just save the movie at the best possible compression rate.

So far, I've seen this with Bad Boys II, Tomb Raider II and Charlies Angel's II. I don't know if it's my computer, my burner, my media or DVD Shrink.

My computer is a 1.8 P4 with 512 Rambus Win XP and using Nero 6 to burn. I typically burn at 4X but have tried to burn at 2X but seems to have the same problem. Don't think it's my DVD player since the same problem occurs on another player in the house.

Any suggestions on making better backup's?

Thanks for any suggestions.

:)

Hi iqwertyi. :)

This could be due to two things:

- Bad (or dirty, scratched) media.
>> try with another media or make sure the ones you're using are not dirty or damaged (even a tiny speck of dust can turn a perfectly good backup into a coaster).

- The redundant "layer-break" info DVD Shrink doesn't remove (very unlikely though).
>> v3.1, coming out in less than a week, will remove the layer-break. ;)

Oooooh, new version of Shrink out in about a week? Thats good to hear, any idea what that means for Recode 2? Is the same guy working on it, ie, will it get the same updates? or are the two programs going to diverge away from each other?

Thanks,

Will be looking forward to the new version.

I had a chance to try and backup Bruce Almighty using deep analysis this time and although there were minor freezing in the backup, it wasn't as bad as Bad Boys II. Bad Boys II backup was not playable after chapter 14 for me.

Hi There. I had the exact same problem with older versions of DVD Shrink. You'll get a Cyclic Redundancy Check (CRC) error at about 50% through the process. I tried everything from reinstalling DVD Shrink to cleaning my DVD. Nothing worked. So by process of elimination, I thought maybe it was the DVD writer, which was internal HP 200j. I went and bought a Sony DRU-510A, and have had no problems since. My backup software of choice is DVDShrink Beta 3.0 Beta 5. Good Luck! It was quite maddening!

Thanks for the tip, swaping out DVD-burner's was going to be my last resort. But good to know that people have solved this problem by that.

"Any word on any other changes?"

Hmmm, let's see....

- Audio preview.
- Full-screen preview.
- Preview conserves original aspect ratio.
- Faster processing (system dependent).
- Automatic creation of VIDEO_TS/AUDIO_TS folders.
- "Cancel automatic shutdown" option.
- New user interface.
- Low-priority mode.
- Custom toolbar buttons.

... and a few others. ;)

P.S: I edited some out as I was given too much away.
Don't want to spoil the surpise. :p
