Hi,

I have several MPEG2 files (music video clips) which are currently in the NTSC SVCD format. I wish to put them all on a disc for playback on my stand-alone player. There are a total of about 25 separate files which total about 2 gigs.

My first thought was to keep them in their current SVCD format and author a SVCD out of them. Then, instead of burning to a CD-R, I would burn them to a DVD-R. This doesn't work because my authoring program which also burns the files will only accept CD-Rs when creating a SVCD.

My second option is to convert all these files to DVD compliant files and author/burn a true DVD. However, I'm unable to find any software that will accept a SVCD compliant MPEG2 files and convert it over to a DVD compliant file.

Can anyone offer suggestion on this or another option I should consider for getting these files onto a single disc for playback on my stand-alone?

Thanks.

Which burning program are you using?

When I attempted to author a SVCD and burn to a DVD disc, I used Ulead's DVD Workshop.

I also have Nero 5.5 which burns to DVD but it doesn't support the SVCD format.

Does Nero give you an error message or something?

I'm not able to use Nero for burning SVCDs as the version I have only supports DVD formats.

I did get an error message when trying to burn an authored SVCD to a blank DVD with DVD Workshop. It ejected the DVD disc and said to insert a CD.

Hm,
weird,
Nero should always have the ability to burn SVCD's,
and i think it'll work with Nero,
maybe you can try it with Nero 6...
If i'm correct there's a demoversion of it...
I hope it supports SVCD's..
Just go to Nero (http://www.nero.com) and try it..

catback,

Because SVCD video format (480x480/576) is not DVD-compliant, most authoring program will reject it. The only authoring program that accept SVCD clip from the get-go is DVD-Lab. Here's the guide:

http://www.mediachance.com/dvdlab/tutorial/svcd.html

But if you decided not to use DVD-Lab, to put SVCD on DVD requires some tricks. One of them is to change the header of the SVCD clips to DVD-compliant (i.e. 352x240/288, 352x480/576, 702x480/576, or 720x480/576). This will fool the DVD-Authoring programs to accept the clips, and when you're done authoring, you just change the header of the created VOBs back to SVCD (480x480/576) in order for your DVD player to play it correctly. Here's a guide:

The other way is to reformat the SVCD (it would take a long time), here's the guide:

Hope these will help.

Cheers,
