Forum Search performed before posting 'slow internal ripping'

Good morning this is NOT an issue as some people have posted before about v slow internal ripping, it is just a minor nag about speed differences between d2s and some other standalone tools.

The thing is a long time ago I applied the firmware patch to my 105 to enable reading/ripping dvd's faster than 2x. If a title is small enough to rip with dvd decrypter and strip with ifoedit and burn then dvd decrypter rips with a final average speed of approx 6500 - 7000 kbps. But if I need to re-encode due to resizing for dvd-r and therefore use D2S, the internal routines seem to stick to an average of 2100 or so, which is very similar to the performance in the past before the movie reading speed restriction was removed?

I run XP Pro, I have a Pioneer 105 and use the XP ASPI files that dvd2svcd offers on his homepage.

Any suggestions?

Regards and a Happy New Year !

Equilibrium.

Hi,
A D2S plugin for using DVDDecrypter is bundled with D2SRoBa. It used to have a separate download (sorry). You don't have to use D2SRoBa in order to use the DVDDecrypter plugin, but why not try that too?

Thanks for the input. I have DVD Decrypter installed standalone anyway, but it is always recommended that internnal routines should be used when using D2S, I just wondered why it is so much slower. I have compared it again the last few days and things rip five times faster for me with dvd decrypter.

I would like to try the d2sroba stuff as quality is always my priority, but as my conversions are all to dvd instead of svcd these days then I questioned how useful it would be? If it is suggested that it improves dvd encodes then great I'll give it a go.

Hi equilibrium,

This thread: very slow ripping (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=61640) worked for me.

Check if you have DMA enabled on ALL of your drives or not. XP changes from DMA to PIO (slower) without any advice to the user.

Anyway, this problem affects to all ripping SW, not only D2S, so seems it is not your problem.

People say it's a bad idea ripping with DVD Decrypter then using DVD2SVCD, but I've never had a problem. I just rip with DVD Decrypter then load the IFO in DVD2SVCD, and everything comes out perfectly.

I'm led to believe this was true of some older versions of DVD Decryptor though I too have never had a problem. Furthermore, the more external software is used during DVD2SVCD conversions, the harder it is to offer support to users since the scope is there for errors outside of the DVD2SVCD bundle to cause conversion failures. For these reasons I think the forums frowned on it rather.

However there are now 1001 (excellent) plugins available so fewer people now use DVD2SVCD the "old skool" way. Also, now the increasingly popular D2SRoBa plugin is bundled with support for DVD Decryptor, the use of this ripper will soon have to gain widespread acceptance.

Thanks all for your replies, I might start pre-ripping with DVD dycrypter then, It would have just been interesting to understand why the internal ripping only is so slow compared to other methods, or if I am the only one who experiences this?

Cheers
