View Full Version : Creating a DIVX with 2 audio streams

hello all, and a happy new year,
i wanted to ask if there is a way with Gordian Knot to create a divx file with 2 audio streams.
To be more specific, i want to have the soundtrack of a DVD in 2 different formats, the normal mp3 2channel one and AC3 (to play in a DD system through spdif output).
I have managed to create divx files with either stereo soundtrack or AC3 soundtrack, so the question is, can i have them both in the same .avi file ?
thank you very much in advance,
George

Hello, PAOK1926, and welcome to Doom9's forum.
Yes you can do this easily. Gknot supports 2 audio track AVIs.
On the Ripping tab, you're used to using the Audio A box on the left hand side. Just to the right of it is the Audio B box. In the Interleaving overhead, note that there are spots to check 2 vbr .mp3s, 2 .ac3/cbr .mp3s, or one of each. Then, when setting up encoding jobs, note that there is also an Audio 2 tab.

Hello,
lets try to do it step by step...
I'm trying to backup my Lord of the Rings, DVD...
I select stream processing in dvd decrypter, and Audio/AC3/English after that...
I run dvd2avi, mark subtitles, etc..
i go to bitrate tab, open lotr*.d2v
calculate avi file size,
avg bitrate 1300kbit/s
select both audio A+B (a=128kbit b=448kbit),
interleaving +avi overhead = vbr mp3 + ac3
resolution etc, etc...
Divx Encoding control panel,
audio1 mp3, 128kbits, average bitrate,
audio2 (the same .ac3 file) "just mux".
finished, only 1 strean with bsplayer...
whats going wrong ?

Open the .avi with GSpot (http://www.doom9.org/Soft21/Editing/gspot221.exe) and, in the audio box, if you actually have multiple streams, you will see them listed and you can click on the "1" or "2" to see what the .avi contains.
If you have two streams, then either you are missing Morgan Stream Switcher (included in recent releases of Gknot), or perhaps there is something wrong with BSPlayer, or both.
If you only have a single stream, post your _GKnot.log file.

Yeap, last night's encoding has 2 streams:
0x0055(MP3) ID'd as MPEG-1 Layer 3 - 117 kb/s (58/ch, stereo) VBR
ac3 (0x2000) Dolby Laboratories, Inc - 448 kb/s (6 ch) CBR
I can see Morgan Stream Switcher in background plugins in Windows Media Player.. But in BSplayer, i cannot switch streams..
I will try to reinstall..

I've moved this to the software players forum, where you might get some additional help -- BSPlayer specific, or perhaps recommendations to use other players. I've used BSPlayer successfully with two stream AVIs in the past, and if I recall correctly it didn't need MSS, though players like WMP did.

Well, i did some "debugging"..
Using this particular .avi, which has both the .mp3 and the .ac3 stream, with BSplayer v0.86, in preferences/General there is a check box "Dont load AC3 settings" which was checked.
I unchecked it, and with right click on the movie window i can select the second stream, which actually plays in DD ;)
In BSPlayer v1.00 RC1, there is no such option in Preferences/General.. Thats why i cant switch between the two streams..

Well, i prefer to create my Divx files using AC3 stream, so i can hear the soundtrack through spdif with my AV amplifier..
But, when i try to record the movie to a VHS tape, no sound is recorded...
So, i found this solution ;)

@techz
Common reason is imo multiple languages.
I prefer the original language (if it's English) but unfortunately I'm the only one. So especially when I take movies to friends for a video evening or when I'm lazy myself I need the additional German dubbed track.
@PAOK1926
Try picking a filter and output device in preferences/audio, not the "default" entry.
Also mmswitch could possibly interfere with BSPlayer's own audio switching routines.
Btw: Do you have the newest BSPlayer RC, version 1.00.803 released in November?
