View Full Version : CCE2.5 much slower than CCE2.66-2.67?

Hi all,
CCE2.66 sometime crash in the middle of encoding the movie so I used CCE2.5 instead. 2.5 seems to work fine. However, CCE2.5 doensn't give me alot of information about how much time the whole thing gonna take. A typical movie seem to have started CCE2.5 in 2 batches. The first one takes around 2 hours to finish. The 2nd one take around 6 hours. (doing 3 passes and my computer speed is around 1.0). I have no idea why 2 batches instead of 3 since I want to do 3 passes (the AVS script has some numbers and there is a number 3 there :o). I usually let CCE work overnight so I really can't be sure that it's 2 instead of 3 batches but in either case, the total time is way more than CCE2.66.
I have a feeling that CCE2.66 is much faster. Each pass probably take around 2 hours so 3 passes take 6 hours instead of 8 hours (or more) as in CCE2.5 on the same computer.
Anyone can confirm anything on this issue? TIA

cce 2.5 is slower, not to much but it's slower than cce 2.6x.
There are some thread about quality comparison between 2.5 and 2.6x.
i am "happy" with 2.5, so it's my choice (but btw, a very basic avs_cce script will run on my pc at 2.3/2.5... :p )
If you prefer a quick bust get cce 2.67x, not 2.66

Thanks for the pointer about the cce quality comparision.
About the confusion why CCE2.5 comes in 2 batches when I set 3 passes, I found from the CCE4U log that it's using Roba! I found out this is because in the AVS Script Editor under global option of DoItFAST4U, RoBa is selected (latest DoItFAST4U version). My question is, there are MANY places where you can set the encoding quality (xxx passes in DoItFAST4U, ReAuthorist, and DoCCE4U). I thought doCCE4U is the place to REALLY set it because that program actually call CCE to do the encoding. This was wrong by the fact that RoBa was used!
My question is
1. Why are there so many places to set the encoding quality?
2. Which one (more than one) is the place to REALLY set it.
(optional) 3. Is Roba Single-pass? Its quality is comparible multiple passes and so is its encoding time!

first of all, this discussion in belonging in wrong forum, right one would be doitfast4u...
>My question is
>1. Why are there so many places to set the encoding quality?
allow you to tweak it all around...
>2. Which one (more than one) is the place to REALLY set it.(optional)
i set it in doitf4u (and i prefer the old 3 vbr pass...)
>3. Is Roba Single-pass? Its quality is comparible multiple passes and so is its encoding time!
no it is a multi pass: 1 pass at at cbr (not true but in simple) and other(s) pass that read and tweak the vaf file created in first pass.
you can chose the number of pass in docce4u

I think the general consensus is that 2.5 is actually faster than any of the later versions, but only slightly. In any case, you just got your encoding methods mixed up. Neither version of CCE is significantly faster than any other.
Read the CCE manual and then the FAQ in the CCE forum. It answers all the questions you asked.

CCE 2.66.X works faster on my P4 than 2.5.X did. I then updated to 2.67.X and it was slower but only by a hair. So I went back to CCE 2.66.X and now it is working just the way I want it to. As for quality, there is no difference between 2.66.X and 2.67.X that I can tell after comparing an encode of the exact same footage

I haven't tried the big 3 method since last summer, do the tools work with cce 2.66 and 2.67 yet? CCE 2.5 seemed unusually slow on my p4 2.66 ghz and now I have a hyper threaded 3.2 ghz p4 so I would like to use CCE 2.66 or 2.67.

Same here, AMD 2600+ @ 2.3ghz, I go from 2.4-2.6 encoding. I read somewhere before that CCE 2.5 is optimized for AMDs, CCE 2.6+ for P4s. Is this true? Might explain the variation in speed comparisons.
