....or perhaps show some patience and pass on the benifit of your wisom to others..
I think the sentiment of what Anijake is trying to say is that TRANSCODING (what DVDShrink does) and ENCODING (what CCE does) are quite different processes.
TRANSCODING leaves the orignial video stream "intact" and reduces the quality of pictures in its original structure. (you can read a better explaination here) (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=63587)
Whereas ENCODING involves ripping the thing to pieces (demuxing), extracting audio from the video, re-encoding the video as new stream, and then cramming it all back together (remuxing) and THEN authoring into a new DVD at or about 4.37GB. All of which takes time and takes some effort to learn how to do. You will find lots of usefull guides on this site and also in the next forum down the list.
Good luck. Happy New Year to all. (6 hours and 27 minutes and counting down...)

I think everyone would love the layout, options and ease of use of DVDShrink along with the quality of a CCE backup so what's wrong with asking?
who knows maybe soon it will happen ;)

Agree. Just think back to where we were this time last year. Where was DVDShrink's progress then. Nero Recoded did not exist. Nor did things like ReAuthorist or that whole suite of app (Big 3 and family).
I remeber when I first got my burner in Feb 03' I was using DVDXCopy (I need a shower now..) and IC7 that had just come out. Now with a few clicks (about 60-70 :) ) and some PC time I can demux, re-encode, re-mux, re-author and burn a shiny backup DVD. Try doing THAT this time last year...
PS - Haaaappyyy New Year everybody. (I'm 28 minutes into 2004 and it feels.... kinda shiny and new)

dont think that there isnt a company out there thinking the same thing because there would be.
this is not actually a new idea though(having both a transcoding engine and encoding in 1). the latest versions of dvd2dvdr use the transcoding engine used in rejig(original engine by Makira) and can also use CCE aswell. Nic even talked about something similar(not using CCE of course) back in the old rejig thread but got bugger all response to it.

I agree. CCE is just too damn good... it's painful to see all that quality so hard to access.

theninjagecko,
I don't think you are "thick". I don't know and I don't presume to know you. You may be a little sensitive though. If you are a professional video thingy like you claim to be then perhaphs YOU should create this wunder-bra ENCODER (is that right, I want to make sure my wording is correct in the pressecne of an industry pro like yourself....)program instead of just imagining it.
And if you "know what transcoding is.." then you presuambly you know what ENcoding is and the differences between the two, therefore a person "in the biz" such as yourself who does this stuff everyday might have been presumed to have known that DVDShrink does not have that funtionality at this stage.
We can all IMAGINE what it would be like to have such a program with the simplicity and ease of use of DVDShrink witht he ENcoding benifits of CCE. And most people here would agree such a program would be fantastic. And as I mentioned, look how far things ahve come in the last twelve months, so anything is possible...
Given the total of 4 posts in these forums and the nature of the question, I feel it was warranted to give info on some basics in reply to you (and the many newbies that got DVD burners for x-mas and are reading these forums for the first time in search of info. I know that sort of stuff helped me out greatly in the begginning - I'm just trying to give a little back. read my other posts and you will see I don't presume people to be thick (all the time ;) ) It would be easy just to tell people posting questions such as yourself to "read the FAQ" or "try searching first". Forgive me taking the time to help out fellow backer-upperers.
Chin up sunshine, you'll get there...
