I was wondering if there is a way to playback a matroska file with rv9 video - he-aac sound - idx/sub subs - chapters in a pc with no filters installed and no permission to install anything.
I can do this by including MPC and some rv9 dlls in the cd but the file contains cook audio. I find cook quite good but I would like to use he-aac as I find it better at lower bitrates. Is there a way to do this by including something in the cd as well and not registering anything? Can MPC use an external .ax or .dll file if it is found in the same directory or should I wait for an MPC internal AAC decoder?

MPC can load filters (ax) on the fly, see commandline options :)

I was about to recommend VLC from the Videolan guys, when i remembered they dont support RV9 yet. Using MPC as Sirber recommended it is probably no solution for you, as this requires to register the filters before i guess.
Your best bet is probably to use a win32 compile of mplayer, or to wait for Xine with matroska support ( soon ) ...

RV9 + HE-AAC = good combination, it should be possible to play it back, but I don't have a sample to try right now, perhaps CoreAAC DS filter

will load all ax filters from it's directory whitout needing to register them. Works #1 on restricted computers.

If what sirber says works is all I need!
I haven't had the chance to try it yet but I will and then let you know it it works.
Thanks a lot all of you for the replies and happy new year!

Xine has matroska support now, and there are dev alphas with RV9 from MKV working also. win32 compiles are available AFAIK, but they might require mingw, i dont know for sure ...

MPC handles files perfectly the way sirber describes!
Nothing more is needed...
