I'm just interested in how fast of encoding times you guys are getting with dvdshrink.

I am using a liteon combo drive to rip, while shrink does the encoding, and I sit right at about 25-30 minutes to encode a whole cd, then maybe a couple minutes to make the iso file.

I was wondering if my times are fast or slow compared to other computer setups.

My computer is a AMD XP 2500+ running at 3200+ speeds with 1024 or 400mhz memory, and serial ata drives.

Any tips to get a faster encode time?

Thanks,
JH

Justin, that seems just about right to me for ripping and simple transcoding, though it actually seems a bit fast if you are using deep analysis. I rip with SmartRipper, which takes around 12 minutes, and then transcode with Shrink in deep analysis mode, and on a 2.4ghz P-IV the average movie takes between 10 and 20 minutes, depending on the complexity of the analysis and amount of compression to be levied. There is a lot of room for variation depending on the speed of the DVD drive, the speed of the computer, the size and complexity of the rip, the condition of the disc, etc., and of course on how many other processes I am running at the same time. :D

very cool and thanks.

Have you noticed any difference in quality between using deep analysis and not using it?

I have yet to use it, and all my dvd's look fine on both our tv's. The tv in my room is a piece of garbage zenith and it looks fine, but in the living room I have a sony wega and it looks good still.

When the first 3.0 betas became available, I ran a couple of tests, and on higher bitrate and longer movies, the difference was quite noticable to me. From that point on I use deep analysis on all transcodes regardless of bitrate or length, and I have been quite happy with the results. For the short extra time it takes to perform the analysis I figure it is worth it.
