Have you tried again with crash recovery?
Does this happen every time?
This is neither a problem I've seen nor a problem frequently reported. I doubt your configuration is to blame - I'm running a XP2500 Barton on a SiS748 ASRock board without problems.
Whilst I would be amazed it was neither audio nor video conversion failed, it is still worth stability-testing your system with Memtest86 and Prime95.
See the sticky in the PC hardware forum for links and details.

This is the first time I've run this software in a year, and the first time for the current release.
What is crash recovery?

Misc tab - recover button.
Browse for your movie folder (if necessary) and click on the .d2s file.
You can then choose from which point in the process to restart - multiplexing in your case.
Good luck

whoops. already over-wrote those files... I just ran it again with a different TMPGENC profile (2pass vbr instead of CQ)
I'll remember that next time!
