Hi to all....

First of all please excuse my poor english.

I recently replaced my sony mini dv dcr-pc101 with the new one DCR-PC330.

I always capturing with scenalyzer live to Dv avi (type-2), then edit with Vegas 4 and render to Dv avi (again) so it can be encoded later with canopus procoder to mpeg2 dvd compliant file.

My question is that my camcorder captures video with RGB filters. Now is there a dv codec that i could use for capturing (with scenalyzer) that supports RGB? (maybe my question is stupid... sorry for that but i don't know). Or generally is there a codec better than the microsoft's one?

Thank you all in advance and MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!!

I'm afraid I don't understand your question. DV uses the YUV2 colorspace (although there are DV codec which decode to RGB only - see Panasonic). The capturing (or better say "transfer") process does not involve neither changing the colorspace nor reencoding. It's just a copy operation.

Sorry if i didn't make my self clear.... i don't speak to good english.

So you already answered my question.... No dv encoder differences when capturing. Just like "copy paste", so i'll continue using scenalyzer live for captuirng in microsoft dv avi.

The thing that bothers me is that when i edit my dv avi with Sony Vegas 4, and render again as Dv avi will this affect quality of video?

Thanks again for your help!!!!!

Only the edited parts of your video will be re-encoded. DV is not very sesitive to generational loss, so there is indeed a slight impact on quality, but I doubt you'll be able to notice it. If you want to be perfect you may save to a Huffyuv avi instead, or use frameserving to feed the encoder. But again, I don't believe it's worth the effort.

I've heard rumors that the Mainconcept DV codec was not only faster but also a little better than the MS DV codec, but I'm not really sure if this is true.
AFAIK the MS DV codec is 100% compliant to the Sony hardware DV codec, so I don't know how Mainconcept could be better.

However, benchmarks on www.slashcam.de (German only, sorry) show that the Mainconcept and Canopus DV codecs are a lot faster than the MS codec. You might save some rendering time using one of those.
