View Full Version : Newer version of FFDSHOW won't play back some AVIs

Hi,

I just installed a newer version of ffdshow, found in this forum (sorry, can't remember who posted the link). I used to run version 20030424 which worked really well. I saw in a posting that a new version had just come out. The exe is entitled ffdshow-20031128.exe. I installed that version. It works for a bunch of AVI files I happened to have on my HD, but one which worked yesterday no longer works with the new version. I removed ffdshow from divx playback, and the movie still didn't load. With ffdshow filtering playback of divx, it would appear to load, but the player (Zoomplayer 3.20) would remain black. I could see the timestamp correctly load in zplayer like it always does, but the vid would not start. I even rebooted to see if I had something wonky in memory. I could jump through the video by randomly clicking the bar, and it would jump ahead without any picture or sound. As soon as I uninstalled the new version of ffdshow, it worked.

It's odd because I have other movies which worked with the new filter (all xvid), just this one would not. I thought maybe it was corrupted, but vdub loaded it without a problem. Every player just showed a black screen (even WMP 9).

I reinstalled the older version of ffdshow, and everything works again. Anyone know what is in the new version which may have caused this problem? Here are the specs from GSpot of my vid I tried to play :

4CC - div3
DivX3 - Low Motion
Stream Type - OpenDML AVI
Bitrate 1324
FPS 23.97
Qf .281
Audio 2 channel AC3 @ 192

Thanks,
R.

same problems here too. except that zoomplayer hangs and i have to kill the process.
but the real strange thing is that the file plays correctly if i open a normal mpg in zoomplayer before.

If I recall correctly... this is a bug in the "use overlay mixer" only disable it and re-try. Use the search for more details...

thanks Kyo, i unchecked the "use overlay mixer".
but that did not solve the problem with zoomplayer.
you also have to change the zoomplayer-settings in
"player options -> filter control -> standard media playback".
set "video renderer" to "system default" and it will work.
