Couldn't leave well enough alone! I upgraded to Core media player from Power DivX Next Gen and all I get through my soundcard is stereo when playing DivX files. DVD plays fine with Spdif. The config shows Spdif selected but alas only stereo for divx. I reinstalled PowerDivx and the filters that used to show like iviaudio are gone. I know that the filters I'm looking for must have been in the folder that I nuked. Someone please have pity on me... I hate stereo. Thanks for your help.

Try AC3Filter (http://ac3filter.sourceforge.net). Are you sure the DivX files in question contain 5.1 audio? You can use GSpot to confirm this.

Thanks for the direction. I had already checked GSpot1.1 and knew it was an AC3 file...448 kbs. AC3 File is already installed. I don't seem to be able to select any filters. Does the filters/codecs need to be in the same folder as the player? Just grasping for straws. I have tried the Core Media, BSPlayer, and DivX Player with the same results. I know it's something very simple but it is a puzzler.

No, filters do not need to be in the same directory, as long as they are registered (which AC3filter is when installing).
Try uninstalling The Core Media Player, see if you get your spdif playback back. That's the main reason I don't use TCMP, it's too bloated and comes with too many filetype associations and Dshow filters. You could also try seeing what filter is being used to play AC3 and unregistering it (regsvr32 /u filtername.ax).
