I asked about this probably a year or more ago, but it still doesn't do what I expect:
If you're playing an anamorphic file in window-mode and select AR 16:9, ZP squishes the video (losing detail) rather than stretching it.
In other words, if I'm watching a 16:9 movie that's recorded as a 720x480 AVI I expect the 16:9 mode to result in an 858x480 window (and without any unused space in the video-window). Instead, I get a 720x390 video in a 720x480 window. You can't get rid of the black bars on top/bottom; ALT-2 (Zoom 100%) doesn't fix it.
I've tried disabling the default setting in Options/Aspect-Ratio for "Restrict AR Adjustments to height in Zoom mode" but it didn't change the behavior (despite the Zoom 100% command).
Is there some trick I'm missing?
P.S. I realize that going full-screen results in the proper operation, i.e., no loss of detail.
