Problems:
Desync from the beginning with CBR Mp3 muxed Movies (very old rips). (fixed latest firmware)
Speedup/Slowdown problems most probably overheating or EMF problems occouring randomly. (GE based Player)
Scaling wrong (not really that noticeable). (fixed latest firmware)
Packed Bitstream with more then 1 B-frames doesn't work
at least the CBR Mp3 problem and the Scaling probs seem to be fixed with the newest firmware for DE
and GE based player.
if you have more infos about the Chip (Specifications) Firmware or any other Info about coming players or Tests
please don't wait to post them :) Please be aware that these Players are in somekind of a Beta Status and
when you think about buying one you'll most likely buy a thing wich could be outdated really fast.
The Elta 8883 DE is Assembled different then the GE based Players the MT Chip lies beneath the loader and on the
others it's a the right site, could be an indication that the GE Chip has little heat problems as allready assumed here
by some french folks
http://tototeseb.9online.fr/onatester/liteon7457.htm
Warning: Most GE Based Player die after a Firmware update so be carefull even if you get the original
(btw the firmware is not done by the sellers it's done by MediaTek) This could also be the reason why
GE based Player most times are cheaper then DE Based Player for example. To my knowledge the
GE based assembly cost the sellers arround 40 € and are sold @ arround 80 € and the DE based player 60 €
and are sold @ 120 € i have no real confirmation for this values yet.
Announced GE Firmware: Atacom DV967,Nevir 2046 (2nd), Medion 7457 (2nd)
Announced DE Firmware: Elta 8883 (2nd (OGG),Yamada DVX6600 (OGG,AVI subs)
GE Chip Bugs: Speedup/Slowdown @ playback random problem (seems to be fixed with latest firmware !!)

Hi CruNcher,
Thanks for posting such detailed info.
I can't remember anyone asking before but how good are these players at spinning RAW Mpeg1 and 2 encodes?
I gather, that a firmware upgrade is already available for the Elta 8883. Do you know if it's an official or unofficial upgrade?
Cheers

Hmm,
The firmware upgrade I found was not nearly as big as this. It comprised of an .doc file totalling 247KB and an MKT.BIN file totalling 1,015KB
Me thinks we have the makings of a couple of Moderators for this section of the forum..... About time too!

Just did a diff on the 2 firmware isos (the one for the 8882 and the other one for the 8883) and they are identical.
So I don't think it is the same as the the one which was released (unofficially?) two days ago.
Maybe the smaller one is far more hardware specific. Furthermore you had to call the UpdateCD MEDIATEK.
SeeMoreDigital
18th December 2003, 12:41
OK.
Although I have not, as yet, purchased one of these standalone players myself.
I would hate to think that some owners might be encouraged to upgrade their players with outdated/unofficial firmware!

Must be an error, it would probably destroy your player if you use the sigma update on a mediatek player.
According to another board elta has been informed of the mistake.
SO DON'T UPGRADE YOUR 8883!

18th December 2003, 14:58
It was the firmware for the 8882, for the 8883 theres only the unoffical update.

Official update will be back online tomorrow as golem wrote after talking with Elta Today!
CruNcher
19th December 2003, 00:14
DSP,8032,Servo and Risc updates come as it looks like directly from MediaTek.
the other enhancements are on a Sub-Level this is also indicated by the firmware marked as Sub-Version.
Firmware updates between the Gran Prix, Lifetec and the coming Medion should be the same (GE) only the Sub-Version will change (most likelie gui things) the question now are the decissions about what container support is made available also definable in these Sub-Version region (so Elta could change it with they Embedded Programmers "do they have such guys ??" or most likelie it is in the hands of MediaTek and ESS to integrate those capabilities on request ?
Problem now with the (GE) Chip could be that it was a Prototype Chip and that it's maybe not anymore working with (DE) updates so updating a (GE) chip based player with a (DE) Firmware could possibly lead to lose of functionality or "dissengaging" of the player if we dont get a statement on what the (GE) chip is "chips that getting to hot and fallen out of the production "DivX Certification" and sold for lower prices but still compatible with (DE) updates ?" i would not risk it maybe if i had a orginal firmware as backup.
Anyone has the Elta updated ? what does the Servo show in the updated firmware ?

Hallo,
I have an italian clone of Elta 8883, whose name is Amstrad 3016dx, it is different for active optical escape
firmaware is:
VERSION =05.00.01.06
SUB-VERSION =00.00.01.06
8032 =05.00.01.06
RISC =05.00.01.06
DSP =03.03.00.14
REGION FREE
its price is 99 euro......
you thoughts that are upgradable with firmaware elta...?
sorry for my bad english.....
CruNcher
19th December 2003, 03:02
that sounds good but this is only still a theory the other problem is we dont know yet how then Special OEM things like the Optical output are handled so if they are defined in the SUB-Version you could possibly lose that capability of your Player after an Elta firmware update. You could try it but you risking your Player if you do, but when nobody tries it we never find out i assume from you firmware that this Amstrad is a DE based Player ? And its clear that i take no resposibility for any damages this might cause and be aware even if it works you could lose the Optical output and then without a base firmware you can't get it back. Could you please also post your Servo version ?

Doom9 their are many DivX Players gone arround on Aldi not only MediaTek based ones and to my knowledge (press Release MediaTek) only those Chips that listed above got certified even if i myself don't hold much from DXNs Certification that let suspect that this Chip has some uknown problems.
thx Zhnujm for the update

Doom9 hmm then maybe you could also ask DXN where the differences between those chips are and why MediaTek doesn't mention that the GE also got Certified in their press Release ?

Given that all these new players carry a MediaTek chipset. Do any of you guys think/wonder/know if the firmware upgrade for say, the Elta will suit say, the Gran Prix or the Medion!
It would appear they all share the same remote control and maybe even the same internal operating system/GUI layout!
Is this a reasonable question, or am I just wishful thinking?

I heard that Mediatek-based players does have problems with XVID if you are using more then ONE B-frame. Is that true, or was that problem already solved?
Doom9
19th December 2003, 23:29
@amango: your source is incorrect. That was a problem with older chipsets and even then could be solved by using the packed bistream option.

I got a Medion player, here are the stuff info it says:
Medion (Denmark)
---------------
Version = 05.00.00.09
Sub-Version = 4D.00.00.09
8032 = 05.00.00.09
Servo = 02.04.00.00
RISC = 05.00.00.09
DSP = 03.03.00.08
I seriously got AV-synch problems. And freezes.. so maybe elta firmware upgrades will work here also..
CruNcher
20th December 2003, 03:20
Charbax2 and SeeMoreDigital
please read on the first pages carefully what i think and what i fear
to sumon it up i belive that it would be to much of a time effort for MT to maintain a unique firmware for every one of those chips "selers", so they most probably will work on any of those chips without problems but that's not confirmed yet and someone still needs to risk his player todo so.

1.Are any MediaTek based DVD/DivX players available in the US?
and (more importantly)
2.Do DVD/DivX Players reading multiple encoded avi's on DVD+/-R/W?

I have bought the new Medion-Player today. All my XVID encodings with 2 B-frames are stuttering almost the whole time. If I encode with "packed bitstream" there is no difference. Without B-Frames the videos are playing smooth. So it DOES have problems with B-frames. However it is a very nice player and I don't regret buying it, as it is much better than any ESS-based player I have seen yet.

Which bitrate have you used? I usually have this problems with high-bitrate AVIs (2000 KBit and higher).
Which settings do you use for B-Frames? Can you list your whole settings for encoding this video you just finished?
I just encoded a 90 minutes-movie yesterday. The whole movie slows down after 5 minutes and playback becomes jerky. I just encoded a twenty-minute video out of the same movie, but without B-Frames. The playback is smooth all the time.

what die_Leuchte wrote is true at least for the Medion their 2 different
mainboard assemblys and we don't know yet how this interfers with the flashing process so still be carefull and even with the switch off power method (and if i remember correct i done this) it could be the last CD that your drive is gonna read :(. New findings also show that some CBR MP3 are not standard conformly done but it's nearly impossible to say what the problem is it could be a old "b0rked" Lame version that produced floating point CBR encodes so you can be almost sure that videos that are old "downloaded/selfmade" that play fine on the PC could have problems with sync on the Standalone, but it's not MediaTek's fault their new firmware solves it wich is indeed a nice feature.

Ok cause this is one thing realy pissing me off, I set the whole night in front of my MD 7457 to find out in which constellation the assynch problem occures and thats what I found out (maybe someone could tell me what that means):
(Used Gspot to compare the different files)
Divx with MP3 CBR 128k "Split = Yes" OpenDML Avi -> asynchronous
Divx with MP3 CBR 192k "Split = Yes" Avi -> synchronous
Divx with MP3 CBR 64k Mono "Split = Yes" Avi -> synchronous
Divx with MP3 CBR 128k "Split = No" -> synchronous
S-MPEG 4 v3 with MP3 128k "Split = Yes" -> synchronous
Divx with MP3 CBR 96k "Split = Yes" Avi -> synchronous
Divx with MP3 CBR 96k "Split = Yes" OpenDML Avi -> asynchronous
seems like the async problem only occures when "Split = Yes" and the file is OpenDML Avi.
It'd be great if there'd be anyone out there that could tell me what Gspot means with "Split = Yes" and OpenDML Avi & Avi (in the Stream Type and A/V interlace section).

I did not find accurate information about over 2gb files for elta 8883, does it work?
I assume that the firmware (not the Mediatek chip) determines if the over 2gb file in udf format in DVD-R can be played, right?
I have an opportunity to buy the new Rimax player with Mediatek chipset (the better one?). But I did not find any info about it's ability to play over 2gb files. I don't quite follow. You must mean "It stops after something around 2GB" (Instead of 1GB??).
I find this odd. In the Kiss forums, there is some info about the UDF support. And I can play over 2 GB files using Sigma's Xcard (with UDF filesystem on DVD-R). And the xcard uses similar chip to the Kiss (of course the drivers and firmware must support over 2 GB). The 2.0 beta drivers did bring the support for over 2 GB files, so I assume the firmware must support it too. I must check in the Kiss forums, if the player can handle over 2 GB.
Is this the actual truth, there must be someone else requesting for firmware update (for standalone players) to support over 2 GB, hmmm?
Can anyone else confirm, that these Mediatek xx chip equipped players can't do over 2 GB ?? Well I guess that if Zhnujm says so, so it is, sad. :(
In the bottom line, I might just get the same quality using Qpel and multiple b-frames with 2 gb file than I'm getting now without Qpel and b-frames using 2.4 GB file. Thanks to Xvid team. :)
** EDIT **: for Zhnujm: here is thread from Kiss forums. Few persons calim that they can play over 2GB AVI. Generally the opininon is that it is not possible. So only way to find out is to buy the player ;)

@begu:
No, thats the funny thing, if the file is bigger than 2GB (i tried a near 4GB file) the playback stops much before the 2GB limit.
Cant say if it is exactly 1GB, but the same is true for my Yamada (ESS based).
I think the kiss players are a bit expensive only for testing ;), but before that, the Sigma Players were limited because they did not support UDF DVDs so maybe its now possible to play >2GB files with the UDF support.
And i would also ask at least twice if somebody says that a player can play files >2GB, most people make only a short test if the file is playable and nothing more :rolleyes:
But i think i can live with splitting the files in 2 or 3 parts until theres a player that supports it (and does not use Sigma or ESS).
If that ever happens ;)
begu
16th January 2004, 13:39
Odd indeed :/
Well if I calculte correctly:
2 GB = 1024 * 2 = 2048 MB -> You can encode ~2040 MB AVI ?
And this can be played back without problems.
The only positive side is, that with the advanced options (b-frames and Qpel) I may achieve same quality with 2gb limit than using bigger files without advanced options.
So, maybe the FW will be updated to support >2gb someday.

alright, the GE chip mystery is solved but I'm afraid the news isn't too good:
The 1389GE is an early version of the certified chip. It is incomplete and buggy and was to be sold as a generic MPEG-4 chipset without DivX playback (and thus certification).
DXn is currently testing the chip but it appears to be identical to a chip they've tested before and that failed certification. So we can remove the DivX certified from that chip..

Doom9 could we get information on wich tests in the Certification process it failed ?
I very much doubt that. I've had a long discussion about the certification process, a "super" certification (including GMC and QPel) and DXn's bottom line was that they encourage manufacturers to include those features but right not cannot afford to piss off all their OEMs who are incapable of passing such a certification. They'll eventually add new features when tbe next generation of chipsets roll out (hopefully all supporting the entire MPEG-4 ASP featureset), but until then, they encourage independent testers to test for such features and use a scale that reflects the performance of a player not only w.r.t. their certification requirements, but go beyond that. For instance, a player that can only handle 1 CD DivX3 rips flawlessly would not get a very good rating in the DivX3 department.. stuff like that.
I have asked whether they'd actually publish an internal evaluation like that and the answer was a clear no, thus I deduce that they have no interest in pointing out specific flaws / problems in a player / chipset and risk pissing off their partners.

I have two 2MB test clips here that I would like someone with a Mediatek 1389xx player to try out.
Both are 18 second clips encoded with XviD 1.0 Beta 3. Both use QpeL, but one has 1 consecutive B frame, the other has 2.
The video with 2 Bframes is jerky, it's not exactly unwatchable, but you can see that the playback (especially on camera pans and zooms) is not as smooth as the other clip.
I have tried encoding the same clip with 2Bframes using Koepi's old 24/06/03 devapi3 build, and it plays perfect. So the problem is only with the new XviD 1.0 Beta 3, when 2 Bframes are used.

@begu:
afaik interlaced is only used when you have an interlaced source, so it must some kind of deinterlacer integratet in the encoding tools of xvid. But there'd be no difference in the result, only some horizontal lines cause of the deinterlacing.
In my tests xvid files with 1-bf played well on the 7457. But Doom9 wrote sth. about 2 & 3 b-frames played choppy on the Grand Prix (which is nearly the same than the 7457).

Interlaced playback works fine on my elta 8883, unlike the other (ESS, Sigma) players.
Maybe you have to change the field order, in divx theres a button for that (top field first), in xvid you need some avisynth tweaking.
bframes >1 also work fine, as long as you have disabled "packed bitstream".

I know that the source must be interlaced to make a proper use of the interlaced option. And I have some TV captures at full PAL resolution, which are indeed interlaced.
I know this, because I can encode the captures using xvid, and they play smooth trough my xcard on my TV. So indeed the Sigma's xcard can decode interlaced material, that was encoded using xvid.
But now for the real point:
- my xcard cannot decode interlaced material (no xvid nor ffvfw) when using b-frames.
-> so could it be that Mediatek chip can decode interlaced material, when using b-frames in xvid? And maybe multiple >1 too?

There is a Firmwareupdate for the Medion 7457, but no changelog.
You can get it here. (http://www.medion.de/downloads/download.pl?id=1777&type=treiber&filename=md7457.exe&lang=de)
But it seems like it's trashed some players, so use at your own risk.

Medion took the update from their page, cause it seems to have some failures.
I have the feeling that my Player for example has now even more speedup/slowdown problems then before.

I actually killed my Gran Prix Player with the Medion Firmware ;)
so I don't think it's covered by warranty, but I'll still try to get my money back and grab an elta 8883, as those don't seem to have slowdown/speedup problems.

Yes. (In Germany)
But you should wait one week or two, because Medion will release another firmware that should be compatible to all players.

H&B's new player DX-3220 (http://www.hb-direct.com/EN/P_26.html)can also handle all the Divx-pro features.
Don't have it, but info about it is here (http://p2prod.ifrance.com/p2prod/les_platines_divx_de_salon.htm) and here (http://forum.surdvd.com/viewtopic.php?t=21599&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=0).
And H&B's products are generally available in the Netherlands, Belgium and France of course. This player is already on sale at this French E-Shop (http://www.rueducommerce.fr/hifi/showdetl.cfm?product_id=2338&pl=1713|2119|2338).
Does H&B makes some players itself or would this one also be a repackaged model of another brand?
Nice thing they are explicitly promising Subtitle and DTS support in a firmware update, it is printed in their product brochure.
And this French E-Shop (http://www.multe-pass.com/boutique/fiche_produit.cfm?ref=205982#) does delivery in the EU, EEC, not really sure.
They however have no stock at the moment.
Greetings.

some manufacturers got srt subs working on players (none of them based on the mediatek chips), so there is still hope, eventhough srt isn't my first choice when it comes to subtitles.
So the firmwares of the Ascomtec, Rimax and Elta Players are exchangeable(i.e. you can use the Ascomtec firm on the elta)?

Here in Sweden we watch foreign movies with original sound and subtitles instead of the dubbed fake voices they use in many countries. Most of my divx have subtitles unless the original language is Swedish. Dubbed voices does not exist here other than on childrens movies. It does not matter that I can understand English, I still want the subtiles in Swedish just because I'm used to it. And I want to be able to switch the subtitles on or off (no matter that I always keep them on). Just don't want to reencode everything to get harcoded subtitles in the picture (takes time and decreases the quality). Then I can as well make them to DVD format if I must reencode it anyway.

xD Seems an easy question but it is not.
Ascomtec didn´t say anything. There´s a guy in the forum who is very near to Ascomtec and it is like the Ascomtec-bridge. He has announced other things and firmware updates and everything was (more or less) like he said. But it is NOT official word.
It seems to be very clear that the firmware will support subtitles, what is not clear is when. He said before friday but that´s tomorrow and nowadays theres nothing out there. Anyway subtitles will come; at midnight, tomorrow or the next week, and they will be more than welcome, now even more welcome when seems that OGM is a lot further that it was a few weeks before (or lost forever sniff:()...

My Elta has just been shipped. Weeee! Yes subs would be nice. OGM would be even nicer. I can live without MKV for now though. I just want a player that handles the basics (If you can call them that).
Subs are needed though as I watch a lot of anime and the occasional foreign movie. Luckily most subs are hardcoded in anime fansubs. ;)

The latest firmware for MT1383GE players
http://www.tecnilog-service.com/soft%20dvix/download/MTT1389.zip
I upgraded my Standard SR3550 (sold in Interdiscount shops Switzerland) with this version and it fixed a number of things compare ro original, Nevir and Medion firmwares.
In pasticular my player had weird sound problem with either Nevir or Mediatek firmware all my avi files with MP3 encoded sound tracks ( which the most often case anyway) - really nasty echo espesially with a spearch paterns.
This one fixed that.
Now my FW level is like this:
VERSION = 05.00.02.06
SUB-VERSION = 64.47.00.02
8032 = 05.00.02.06
Servo = 02.06.00.00
Risc = 05.00.02.06
DSP = 03.03.00.36
Still have overheating problem after a while (3-4 hours of usage) the image starts freezing and have to do cold reset of the playrer to restore its functionality.

Servo 01.05.01.00
RISC 05.00.02.02
DSP 03.03.00.23
Nice player, Someone post a thread asking about the UK (220V)plug fitted. The people advised him to buy a step-up transformer from 110V - 220V. I noticed on the back panel that it can handle any AC voltage from 100- 250 Volt 50/60 Hz. So it should be OK for the USA. Just change the plug.
What I would like in a future update is a "RANDOM" function for audio CD's also with MP3's. The reset button on the remote is too easy to press, a combination of 2 buttons will be great. Remote control distance very limiting.

Yes, I noticed that only the RISC and DSP changed. The upgrade was very quick, less that a minute, so it could be that it only updated that 2 files. If it fixed some bugs I don't know, because I did not discovered any bugs before I done the upgrade. Was hoping for a random play function.

The Rimax should already support a random function. Im somewhat sure because i already tried the firmware with my elta.
Normally you can cycle trough the different playback modes with the repeat button.

Thanks for the info. If I understand you correctly you tested the Rimax firmware in your Elta and it worked. On the Rimax with the latest Rimax firmware the repeat button only cycle through All or Single. No Random function. Anyhow the good news is that if it worked on the Elta it will also work with a new firmware release from Rimax "hopefully in the near future". Can I use the Elta 8883 firmware on the Rimax (MT1389DE) player. Don't want to kill it, was not easy "$$$" to get the player delivered in the Middle East.

I have recently purchased the Rimax Divx Player - I was swayed to it from the other MT1389 based players available in the UK due to the fact that the specs clearly state AAC audio support. All the other MT1389 appear to list WMA support instead of AAC, whereas the Rimax listed AAC and had an absence of WMA in its list of supported formats. However, I find that the player appears to play WMA format instead of AAC just like all the others despite trying various file extension (such as .MP4, .M4A or .AAC). Has anyone else had any luck with this. I have also found that the player doesn't really like any of the brands of DVD-Rs or DVD-RWs that I have despite the fact that they are generally regarded as very good (Verbatim, Apple, Ritek). I find that I appear to get errors in the data stream that causes random corrupt video sequences .... if I rewind and replay a problematic section then it will play it fine, and then screw up elsewhere. There doesn't appear to be this kind of problem using CD-R or CD-RW. Is anyone else finding this or what make of media are you using.
Cheers

I've just watched a full movie... at the beginning it showed some speedup, slowdown, but only at beginning (first minute), but I experienced a little audio / video desynch (vbr mp3) so I'd like to update firmware...but don't know where to download and if I can broken my player (on first post it's written so).
Thanks

@CavalloPazzo:
Is it this player: http://cgi.ebay.ch/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=3083306734&category=27730
It looks really like an elta 8883. But you say the display is on the right side :confused:
A good sign for a DE Player is if it has color settings (brightness,contrast,..) in the setup, i have not seen a GE player that has such settings.

Yes, it has brightness and color control... but maybe it's only question of firmware :confused: .

I have a DENVER DVD 158divx, and I am almost sure it has a MEDIATEK 1389DE inside (I haven't open it). I've checked the firmware version
and it's the same as elta's 8883 firmware update:
05.00.02.02 VERSION
00.00.00.01 SUB-VER
05.00.02.02 8032
01.07.00.00 SERVO
05.00.02.02 RISC
03.03.00.23 DSP
I guess I could download ELTA's Firmware to "update" my player as it would only change background picture. Am I right?
The screen captures I've seen from other 1389DE based players are the same as DENVER 158 so...

There is a newer firmware available for the Ascomtek 3004 which should re-enable the DTS encoding (or something, my spanish isn't all that good ;-)). It's available through the spanish Ascomtec page.
The change should be like this:
Versión:.....05.00.02.02
Sub.ver:.....00.00.02.02
8032:........05.00.02.02
Servo:.......01.11.40.00
Risc:.........05.00.02.02
DSP:.........03.03.00.33
no changelog, but the MTK.bin is dated 29.3.2004.

Don't know for sure.
I don't have an Ascomtec, just read it in a spanish board, but they didn't talk about subs there.
I'm waiting for subtitle support on the elta 8883. The Ascomtec firmware probably works for me, but it's not worth the risk, until I find out that a firmware definatly supports subs.

I just got Apex DVX-2102 player. Can't open it, but I think it based on DE chipset. Firmware version is:
VERSION = 05.00.02.03
SUB-VERSION = 00.00.00.01
8032 = ??.??.??.??
Servo = ??.??.??.??
RISC = ??.??.??.??
DSP = ??.??.??.??
I'm also pretty sure it's the same manufacturer that making Yamada 6600 - same rear panel, same front panel buttons on the top of the player, same firmware version...all except sub-version and some cosmetic changes on front panel. Of course there isn't a sign of this player on Apex website - I think they jsut used Apex logo to sell it in our region- Middle East. Since I couldn't buy Yamada here, I got this one. No hope for firmware upadate for this player, so I wanted to ask your opinion - may i try upcoming Yamada firmware. Subtitles are pretty important to me, and reencoding movies with hardwired subs as you all know is a pain:). I don't know if it will be safe cause of Sub-version difference and I can't tell what Servo etc are.
Thank you in advance.

Again news :)
the first MediaTek Based firmware with .srt subbtitle support has found it's way to the net based on BBK Standalones like the Atacom DV967,SILTEX DV967 and Peekton PK6003 http://forumdreamzone.free.fr/Dv967/967FR-1-0402%81inew%20software%20with%20subtiltle).bin just rename it to MTK.bin and the normal burn procedures for DE Player it's not known yet if it can be used on GE based player also and still their is the eprom problem i can't guarantee that it will work for your player and i take no responsibility for what you doing with it.
However it also looks like this firmware has introduced new bugs :
- extended characters do not show in subtitles ; extended characters (as in the ISO-8859-1 (Latin-1) charset) are absolutely necessary for the use of accents in French, German, Portuguese and Spanish texts.
- screen display is excentered to the top (moved up)
- fast forward on simple DiVX turns out to have become limited to x4 even if the OSD shows x32
- zoom 1/2 does not work anymore and acts as a zoom x2
- finally, some people complained that the screen display permanently autoswitches from 4/3 to 16/9 (large) and back from 16/9 to 4/3 leading to a distorted image on 4/3 TV's, but i suspect this one was already present in the former firmware.
Thanks very much for transmitting these infos to your technical team.
We are eagerly awaiting any possible fix for these introduced bugs.

even if that's the case it doesn't matter anymore finaly i have the evidence :) that GE and DE are made from the same Source Tree by a Seller
After multiple beta testing of the new firmware for Atacom DV967 on our popular forum (Forum.surdvd.com), it appears that the firmware 967FR-1-0402 has solved the wma support, and some asynchronisation problems, and has introduced the ability of reading subtitles and we thank you very much for this.
- zoom 1/2 does not work anymore and acts as a zoom x5
- finally, some people complained that the screen display permanently autoswitches from 4/3 to 16/9 (large) and back from 16/9 to 4/3 leading to a distorted image on 4/3 TV's, but i suspect this one was already present in the former firmware.

I put the first Firmware that support SRT subtitles on our server.
(Supports SRT subtitles, name of subtitle should be the same like movie
so file.srt and file.avi , will play automatically, use subtitle key to disable it.)
Fixes some small issues like onscreen Time/Zoom display,has latest codec available for the used MTK chipset.
XVID issues are still under research from MTK company, if they did solve this we will release another firmware immediately.

I cannot believe it's taking them so long to make a fix in the firmware. If I see a fix to playback XviD correctly appear before the summer I'll be very surprised. In fact I have a sneaky feeling Mediatek will dump making new firmwares for this chip and move onto the next.

I dont think you will have a working player if you try to update your elta with the yamada firmware.
Even if the player will work - if the remote control or the buttons on the player are different you wont have a chance to flash it back or use it.
If the problem with some of the amstrad players are solved i will try the amstrad firmware, it is fully compatible with the elta (remote control,buttons)

Theres now a second update for the amstrad, i think for the players that failed before.
So i tried this with my elta and it works.
Finally .srt subtitles, but very limited. Not centered, white text with no outline and if you use ff/rew they stop working.
And it seems the default video setting is NTSC.

@SeeMoreDigital:
No free resizing, it just uses the Aspect Ratio Setting that you can change in Xvid. So if you encode anamorphic (crop only black bars) it works exactly like the original dvd.
@romravan:
No change, Xvid+GMC and Packet Bitstream with more than 1 bframe still do not work.

Have you tried generating anamorphic encodes using 3ivX and FFvfw? Or does anamorphic signalling only work when Xvid's 4CC is present?
I'm interested that AR adjustment is able to work with cropped encodes. Have you tested using 720x480/576 with a 2.35:1 image and with the mattes left in?
And... does the 16:9 TV output setting work correctly?
