Need some guidance

I'm recording from TV directly to a DVD+RW disk with a Magnavox recorder. After I record something I then copy it to my computer HD. What I want to do is edit the video to remove commercials etc. Looking for suggestions on what programs I can use for this. Any help would be appreciated.

you can probably use TMPeg because it's mpeg2
