View Full Version : Need tool for DVD->Audio CD conversion

I have a 5-DVD box (10 hours music) with Pavarotti concerts that I want to create audio CDs from.

No problem demuxing AC3 tracks and converting to MP3, but the problem is of course that I get one really long track (that won't fit on a cd-r).

Does anybody know of a good tool that will take a big audio file as input and either split it into appropriate tracks automatically (based on applause since it's a live concert - no silence breaks unfortunately) or at least provide a good and fast UI for doing it manually ?

Doesn't really matter what audio formats are supported by the tool as long as I can convert it to wav or mp3 at the end. My target format is 10 or so audio CDs, so for the sake of simplicity, Nero accepts MP3 - but anything else will probably work fine as long as I can make an audio CD.

I've played around with Audacity, but it doesn't seem to help very much (as always, could be me not understanding the app of course).

maybe this (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&postid=403568#post403568) will help you. Iīve never seen a editor which cuts applause automaticly.

If the DVDs have chapters you can use ChapterXtractor and BeSplit to separate the audio into chapters, that's what I would recommend. Do not convert to MP3, because then you're going AC3 > MP3 > wav, which introduces additional loss of the audio (which is already in a lossy format), just convert AC3 > Wav.

Unfortunately for some of you, just a german guide (but doom9 didn't want to provide my tool because he didn't think that such a tool could have anything to do with the topic of his forum...) :sly:

Hi LigH,

nice to see you in the English section :D

I take a closer look to your guide - real nice work! One thingīs missing: where on earth do I get the app Chap2Cue
I have searched through gleitz, your homepage, all the doom9 download sections with no success, even filemirrors couldnīt help.
Maybe Iīm wrong - but is it possible that this app isnīt avaible at all?

Edit: In the end I found it here (http://www.fr-an.de/mdvd2acd/chap2cue.rar), ecact at the place where it sould be - sorry my mistake, I was fixed on the name Chap2Cue and overlooked LigH`s Chapter List to Cue Sheet Converter
