View Full Version : Question about XviD compression

I capped a show last night using XviD (the newest beta) not Huffyuv. The reason is I have no harddrive space and the picture comes out fine anyway.

Now to the question. I seperated the audio and video from my .avi file. The video file is 92 megs. When I try to full process the video with XviD 2nd pass - 2 pass it comes out 173 megs? Shouldn't it make it smaller?

How do I make the video I have smaller?

Welcome, Parlett316!

You've slightly misunderstood the concept of 2-pass. You have to do the 2nd pass from exactly the same source as the 1st pass. So unless there's a re-run of that TV-show, you won't be able to do a proper 2nd pass... (Forgive my jesting, you won't be able to do one either way.)

I would keep the video as it is, this time, and try a constant-quantizer encoding with a higher quantizer when you capture next time.

In a perfect world I would have used Yuffy but no hard drive space :(

Last time i did the same method it took a 1 gig video file (captured the same way with XviD) and turned out a 650 meg file.

Thanks for your help.
