Hello all,

I have a 32-bit float 6 channel 48000 wav. The only problem is I can't seem to get the conversion to AC3 correctly using ac3enc and BeSweet. How do you:

a) Convert the wav to ac3 keeping the 32-bit floating information.
b) Convert it back to a 6ch 32-bit float 48000 wav once it is to ac3?

PS- I did a search, but couldn't find what I was looking for.

Thanks!

Josh,

DSPGuru does not recommend using Besweet and AC3enc to make AC3 files...at least that is how I understand what he said on page on of the Besweet FAQ.

For the other encoding techniques: Look on page two of the EoH stereo to ambisonics-surround guide. About half-way down the page there are several other how-to methods.

Hope I helped... :confused:

Hmmm a 9.2 Mbps wav file or 15min/GB? :D I hope you didn't top the wav file size limit which is either 2 or 4 GB. Also, most programs don't accept 32 bit float wav files at all. I'm not sure about BeSweet or ac3enc. I do know that oggenc does. You can also try 32 bit integer.

For your second question, azid and ac3filter can decode ac3 to 32 bit float wav files.

Thanks all for the advice! I have a 3 minute song for a test so it is only about 250MB (6 ch). Now I know it is better to use a mux file then an actual 6ch file.

@Umma:

I have seen this post many times-- Do not use ac3enc :-\. Except it's free-- which is the main reason I am using it. All the suggestions on the 2nd page were regarding to SoftEncode not ac3enc. All I need to know how to do is to have the ac3 in 32bit float 48000 using ac3enc (or any other free software piece).

Thanks!
