Are you guys sure that you have to purchase nero 6 to use it? Couldn't you just get the demo of 6 and download the plugins? I tried the demo and was able to watch a movie of mine. But I haven't tried to rip yet.

For me, I do have a valid license of Nero Burning ROM 6.3.0.0 and I have it installed. Also installed Nero Recode 2 and managed to proceed with "Copy DVD to Nero Digital", but I still don't have 5.1 Channle surround enabled. And when playing a MP4 in Nero Showt ime I get this message:
Due to patent lisence restrictions, Dolby Digital 2-channel decoding is not available. This feature can be added by installing the DVD Video Plugin, Nero Burning ROM Ultra Edition or Web Update.
I have no clue why is that. I am going to contact Ahead in this regard.

I'm getting that same message too. I don't know how to fix it. I'm running my first test right now as we speek. What I did was lock the bitrate to make a two disk movie of ghostbusters. The resolution was kept the same and I'm letting the program autocrop. I'm doing a small segment and since I locked the bitrate it's encoding that small segment at that rate. Right now even without changing the resolution I am getting 50FPS. so I don't know what the quality looks like yet but this codec hauls butt!

hmmmmmmmmm clip test weren't that promising. I can see why it is so fast if this is the quality it gives me. I'm doing the whole movie and going to bed. Maybe when I wake up i'll have a better flick.

you have to load the serial in Nero Burning
and in NeroVision Express for everything to work!

Sometimes, Automatic cropping fails to crop the movie as we expect. That happened to me in my very first DVD. That was because there was some yellow colored stripes in the top black area, and both Dr. DivX and Nero Recode thought it was part of the movie, and didn't crop the top bit.
I think manual cropping is still the best way to go.
When trying to fit a DVD to 1 CD, the quality of the MPEG4 wasn't that promising. I haven't encoded in 2-pass yet. However the MPEG4 1-pass was quite similar to DivX 5.1.1 2-pass (default settings).
The speed of encoding is incredible. I got upto 86 frames/second encoding speed in 1-pass (faster than watching the movie!), and the total encoding time was just 39 minutes for 01:53 hour movie.
Although Nero ShowTime player refused to play the encoded MPEG4 movie complaining that it didn't have the 2-channel DolbyDiigital Decoder, QuickTime Player 6.4 played it with no problems.
I didn't get subtitles either. May be I am doing something wrong. :(

i did matrix reloaded and was getting 60 fps for first pass and 35 for second pass. the quality was very good, not as good as xvid with qpel, vhq4, trelis, motion search precision 6 IMHO, but i just used the defaults and am sure when i use some more features it will look even better.
BTW. i removed the serial key for ultra edition and used the demo and the thing about the dvd plugin went away.

what settings are you guys using? I just tried to do ghost busters and for some reason nero didn't even hit the targeted size. Instead of making it two disk it just made it like 1 and a half. Dunno why.

Well the second time around is now done. For some reason it still missed the targeted output size. however i think it did maintain the same bitrate I just blame it on the fact that it cut the first 20minutes off the movie. Don't know why. Checked the in and out points but nothing. I also think that for a two disk movie it seems to look better with the H263 quant over the MPEG.
