Has anyone used Interview's Copy or Recorder. I've used DVD Decrypter to back up most of my dvd-5s and I am looking for something easy to backup some of my dvd 9s. I dont know the difference between the two programs or if either would do what I want. $50.00 is the max I want to spend.

hi and welcome to the forum!
generally it would help if you would provide a link or two for the programs mentioned above!
anyway, if you are looking for an easy way to do DVD-9 to DVD-5 i would suggest that you take a closer look at DVDshrink (doom9 download section).
if it seems too complicated, take a look at the guides doom9 provides on his site. i'm sure it'll seem really easy afterwards!

I'm sorry I gave the wrong name. It's Intervideo Record and/or Copy. Their address is: discstp://DVDCopy (www.intervideo.com/jsp/InterVideoDVDCopy_Profile.jsp.).
InterVideo DVD Copy Gold state it cannot be used to copy CSS-encrypted. Does that mean you could rip a DVD with Dvd Decrypter and then copy from the hard drive with Intervideo's Copy?
Thanks for your help.

Yes! It means exactly this.
I too, strongly urge you to take a look at dvdshrink. It does a very good job and it is free.

I would not recommend either Intervideo WinDVD Creator Platinum, nor Intervideo DVDCopy because of a bug in both products that prevents you from storing images created with either program on your hard drive.
DVDCreator, for example, does not allow you to make a "DVD Image," even though it offers this option. It writes files to the folder you designate, but when it is through, it deletes them immediately when the project is done.
Intervideo DVDCopy will do the same thing.
Both products WILL burn to CD/DVD OK, but you just can't put files on your hard drive for later burning.
Stick with DVDShrink and save a few bucks. It'll do what you need it to do.

I should have read this post earlier as it would have prevented me to run intervideo dvdcopy 5 times in order to find out why the $%p! it deletes the files when it finishes the process...
Anyway... i guess I'll have a try with the other softwares...
Did anybody have a look at dvd.box.sk ?
they 've started a basic quality comparisons of dvd backup softwares by using The Matrix, and they are using the same frames as Doom9 is using for its codec tests for the frame comparisons.
They havent tested dvdfab yet,but they did test CloneDVD, DVDXOPY, Recode2, DVD2one DVDshrink, Pinnacle Instant copy and windvd dvdcopy.
They rank dvdcopy the best one at the moment with (i quote) no difference at all with the dvd.
What do you think about their test? I know it's only based on one movie but it should give a good indication on softwares quality shouldnt it?

I have been reading the tests from dvd.box.sk also. Im quite surprised about their results, so im going to try out intervideos dvdcopy to see how good it will work for me. Sounds too good to be true :)

I gave a try at DVDcopy with my pearl harbor dvd...
Ok it's not the easiest dvd to backup... nearly 3 hours quite noisy source... but I had to try;-)
and well...no miracles...
pictures are clearly less detailed and blocks appear in high motion areas...
well I'll see what dvdshrink can do with it...

I've just finished a backup with Dvdshrink (deep analysis) and the results are pretty similar to what dvdcopy did.
On the few differences i've spotted DVDshrink tends to keep more detail in the noisy sky than DVDcopy but the drawback is that it is not consistent so that the sky will look blur then a bit more noisy then blur then noisy... etc... with dvdcopy the sky is blurred all the time so that it produces less visual artefacts I think. But for the rest the details were identical on closeup for example between the two methods.
but not bad for a free software;-)
