Hey there guys,

I am having a problem in the WMV9 file encoded according to the other thread.

I get horizontal stripes in the video. It would be great if you could kindly see the video and tell me what I am doing wrong. I have uploaded (http://members.iinet.net.au/~malith/files/Great-Expectations-test.wmv) a 730kb clip.

I didn't encode this clip in 2-pass because it takes the time of encoding the full movie to encode 1-pass.

The 2-pass encoding also gives horizontal lines.

Video Properties:
Audio codec: Windows Media Audio 9 Professional
192 kbps, 48 kHz, 5.1 channel 24 bit (A/V) 1-pass CBR
Video codec: Windows Media Video 9
Video Bitrate: 640kbps
Total Bitrate: 842kbps

I would really appreciate to hear your ideas. :)

you have to apply a IVTC (inverse telecine) before encoding.

I think that WMEncoder can do this task internally.

It did work perfectly scharfis_brain. :)

How do we determine whether the source video was telecined?

Thanks again. I was kinda disappointed before, but now I can continue WMV9 encoding.

How do we determine whether the source video was telecined?
3 good frames followed by 2 interlaced ones.
Typical for Telecine on NTSC-Video.

Hi,

The inverse telecine works great! However it took 09:13 hours to encode a 01:53 hours movie whereas it took only 06:57 hours to encode the same movie without Inverse telecine.
1. Is that normal guys? These results are from a P4 3GHz, 1GB PC3200

2. The file size of the movie came out to be 582MB after the inverse telecine was selected. (The quality of the movie is still superb.) The total bitrate of the movie is 840Kbps (640kbps video + 192kbps audio + 8kbps overhead). If we do a bit of calculation: 840Kbps/8 = 105KBps; Movie length in seconds = 6780; Therefore 105 * 6780 = 711900KB = 695.2MB! But the filesize is 582MB! Can anybody please explain the reason behind this?

3. These are experiences I would like to share:
(A) If the speakers are set to 2/2.1 Speakers, the WMV with WMA9Pro 5.1 movie gives NO sound. I have to change it to 5.1 Speakers setup (in Sound and Audio Devices)
(B) If the speakers are set to 2/2.1 Speakers, the WMV with WMA9Pro 5.1 movie plays slower than normal (maybe trying to downmix to stereo).

Yours,

Unfortunately I forced the problem again. :(
This time the video source is not NTSC and Windows Media Encoder refuses to inverse telecine the video, because it is not 30fps (NTSC).
So I can do inverse telecine only for NTSC. I tried deinterlacing too, but I still get the horizontal stripes as before.
Can anybody please suggest a workaround to remove these stripes?

There is a hard way though:
Opening each VOB file in VirtualDub and saving that as AVI with 30fps,then joining all of them to single AVI, and then open it in WME. That will take ages.

P.S:
I found the answer for the difference of the file sizes. Even though the bit rate VBR was set to 640Kbps for Video, it actually has an average of 520.96 Kbps. Also the audio has an average of 190.42 Kbps. :)
