I haven't ripped a movie since divx 5.0.1 and am back with some free time. Tried a few searches and just couldn't come across a real comparison. So can anyone tell me how much faster divx 5.1.1 actually is? Haven't heard how encoding speeds of the latest RV9 codec runs. Any input? I know these sound like newb questions but I guess I'm back to being a newb again:devil:

Here's a quick catch up on DivX :) 5.1.1 should be at least as fast, and probably slightly faster than the 5.0x series - provided that you note under 5.1.1 Standard mode is equivelent to Slowest mode under 5.0x (i.e. under 5.1.1 consider the Slow/Slowest modes completely new). You'll also find 5.1.1 much more stable because 5.01 had a memory leak, and this often caused multipass to get slower and slower the longer it ran. The Psycho-vis has been completely re-written, profiles have been added to support encoding for DivX Certified devices, the GUI has been designed to try and prevent you from selecting incompatible options (so if you turn on QPel for example and you can't select Slow or Slowest modes this is why).
We've also got a full user guide now (see the link in my signature) that will bring you right up to speed on 5.1.1.

I have to reply with a clear yes-but...
Here's my speed test results since 5.05:
version 5.05 5.10 5.11
________________________________
simple 10.1 12.0 12.3 (fps)
bidi 8.7 8.1 9.7
qpel 6.2 4.79 4.8
gmc 8.9 10.7 11.1
b+q+g 3.96 2.66 2.82
This is 2-pass with Psy-mode disabled, Slowest(5.05)/Standard(5.1.x) mode, Feedback disabled, video source is MJPEG with no audio. Machine is an Athlon-1.4GHz. Note that MV reuse is not working in 5.05, and enabled in 5.1.x.
Mostly, 5.1.1 is faster than 5.05, except if Quarter Pixel is used. QPel is still a major speed loss, and (in my opinion) not any longer worth the speed impact. BiDi+GMC+QPel is in 5.1.1 still 30% slower than in 5.05.
