Hi there, Im using GKnot and the XviD-Codec. Yet even though Im pretty sure that I followed the guides on doom9.org to the dot, I cant make the codec to add the credits at only 20% quality. The appropriate box is always kinda "greyed" so that I can't click on it. I looked in the first-pass/second-pass settings, but whatever I do, it doesnt seem to change anything.
Could you guys help me out? Thanks a lot! Albrecht

Switch you codec to DivX and I think you will see the option get activated. It will turn off again when you switch back.

Nonsense!
Option for choosing credit range encoding at minor qualitiy/lower quants has merely changed its face and place.
Under Configuration add another zone. Window pops up which requests setting of starting frame (of credits start in your case).
Then adjust either weight slider to 0,2 or quant to a fix value.
You may also choose by ticking the box if the so definded credits range should begin with a keyframe.
Voilą.
Tell me, what you did instead.
And BTW, Rooster, your answer is not qualifying at all.

What does that mean? My answer was based on my own experiences. If I use a DIVX codec, then I have a button called Credits on the Options page of GKnot which allow me to set different codec options for the credit portion of the encode. I do not have this same button if I choose to use the XVID codec. I only have First Pass and Second Pass. Also, by virtue of choosing XVID, once you click Save and Encode, if you look at the TRIM section, you only have the option of No Trim and Movie Only (the other options disappear as I indicated in my post). Apparently, it makes no difference at all which one you choose. If you had selected DIVX as your codec, you are presented with 4 options; No Trim, Movie Only, Credits Only, Movie and Credits.
Now let me ask you a question. Where do I find the configuration menu you are talking about in order to add another zone? I went through every tab of GKNOT looking for either a configuration option or anything on zones...I couldn't find anything. Forgive my blissful ignorance, but what are you talking about?

Rooster, this thread is more related to XVid than GKnot.
That's why it resides in the XVid forum, NOT in the GKnot forum.
You'll fall over the zone settings just by hitting the configure button in VDub (under compression option) or 1st/2nd pass setting buttons for XVid in GKnot.
In each case the window that appears contains in the lower part the zone settings. Click add button, then proceed as described before.
I have to admit that your 1st answer appealed like an contra advertising to me (always the DivX vs. XVid hassle). I didn't see the relation to GKnot manoevers.
So far I find the new zone feature useful.
For comfort reasons maybe the GKnot crew will implement a credit section for XVid which modifies the settings stored in the registry, so users don't have to change them by codec configuration procedures.

Hi-
I do not have this same button if I choose to use the XVID codec.
The DivX credits are set within GKnot, as you say. But the XviD credits are set within XviD itself. In the First And Second Pass, open them up, and then go Advanced Options->Credits->check Credits At End Of Movie, fill in the frame numbers, and then tick Desired % Rate and set the per cent.
This only works with the older versions of XviD (like Koepi's 6/24), and not the newer versions, which aren't yet supported by GKnot.
And Bluedan was quite rude, and I think he was explaining for the new XviDs. But you, Rooster6975, were advising a switch to DivX, an answer which I don't think that the original poster, alberlie, was looking for. So please take it easy guys.

Hi there. First of all, thanks for your replies...
Second: I already had found that "credit" tab under "advanced options" in the XviD-Codec-Settings. I just got a little confused, since in the guide I got from doom9 gknot-xvid-guide. And also in this guide it suggested to mark the "add credits at ... percent"-box which is according to you guys not funcioning. But still, if it works this way (just remembering the frame number of when the credits start and putting them in the appropriate boxes in the advanced options of the codec-settings) I guess I'll be fine.
One last question: do I have to enter those frame-values in the first-pass settings as well, or only in the second-pass (since only then Xvid is actually encoding)?
Thanks a lot, alberlie

Both.
And don't forget to either disable it or change it for the next movie, or you may find yourself with 20% quants near the end of the video some time. Those values will "stick".
