Is it possible to use any DirectShow (VFW) 3-party codec with WMEncoder9?
It seems there is no legal way in WMEncoder itself, but may be somebody knows workarounds? I tried to find information, but was not successful so far.

I don't know of any, but why would you? What feature does WME have that other tools don't?

WME does live streaming of ASF format that can be easily played by WindowsMediaPlayer. What else can do this trick on Windows platform (not too expensive)?

AFAIK, WME9 doesn't support VfW codecs at all. However, theoretically the ASF format should be able to store any compressed video stream.
Search the web for a utility called "vid2asf" or "vidtoasf". It's an old AVI -> ASF conversion utility which originally shipped with Netshow. Of course, it's not officially supported by Microsoft anymore, so you might have to do some searching to find a good download link. Anyway, this tool should allow you to take an existing AVI and convert it to ASF without recompression.

If anybody has any luck with zambelli's suggestion can they post the info in this thread please?

Well I am jumping the gun a bit here but..... Icecast2 will stream Theora Ogg containers with both video and audio. Peercast will as well. But in the mean time peercast supports WMV and that obscure new nullsoft format NSV IIRC.

It really depends on his needs. Heck, VideoLAN Client/Server (http://www.videolan.org/) may be just what he needs. It'll stream pretty much anything.

True enough. I can't believe I forgot Video Lan. Notice though they don't call it Video Wan. I think it should work. But I would not be to comfortable about relying on it just yet. Testing needs to be done. I had a hard enough time getting someone to test my icecast station the other day.
