Sorry for repeating this thread but it seems that NO ONE can give a satisfactory answer or even give a viable suggestion or solution.

I have seen this problem by many people in the polls but finally there wasn’t anyone to really help them. Well here it is:

I have ripped an NTSC DVD in my HDD in movie only mode (I own the dvd so cut the crap about illegal and sh…t !!

I used Vobedit to demux to m2v and ac3 files. I didn’t keep any subtitles because the DVD is Region 1 and the included subs (English, French) are no use for me. Anyway …..

I downloaded subtitles for my language in .srt format. I used SRT2SUP to make the conversion, fix the colour and font and also correct the timing. Finally I used Ifoedit (both 0.95 and 0.96) to author the DVD with the new subtitles. I import the m2v, the ac3, the sup and the celltimes.txt file, which I took with the Ifoupdate method mentioned in the forums. I even tried without any celltime.txt import.

After finishing the authoring I test the movie in my PC using PowerDVD. The subs were green so I change the hex values according to SRT2SUP IFO settings. Everything worked ok including the chapter change. I finally burned the DVD using DVD-Video setting in Nero. I first burn on a Verbatim (MCC) DVD-RW. It worked OK, subtitles are in the right colour and position and the timing is perfect in my standalone. BUT ………………… When I try to change chapter, forward or backward the movie plays for about 5 seconds and it freezes!!! I noticed that when the movie originally start, the time counter on my standalone stays at 6 seconds and does not proceed but the movie is playing normally (if I don’t change chapter or forward-backward). If I change chapter the time change into the relevant chapter time but again after 5 seconds the movie freezes

I’ve been on this problem for almost a week now, I followed lot of “solutions” found in the forum but yet the problem exists. I burned into DVD-R, DVD+R (several brands like TDK, Verbatim-MCC, Ritek, etc.) so is not a media problem and don’t tell me about it!

I even tried the IFOupdate solutions but still nothing. But maybe I made some mistakes in the procedure so I will appreciate if someone can write down the procedure he used and worked.

After lot of nerve brake I read (by 2COOL) that ifoedit has problems authoring with NTSC DVDs. Is this the REAL PROBLEM? And if so can you AT LAST tell me (not suggest) an authoring software that: 1) accepts NTSC movies, 2) import separate streams like m2v, ac3 and sup(or any other subtitle formats), 3) author working DVD’s WITHOUT THE FREEZING PROBLEM ?!!

Sorry for my tense post but it really disturb me to manage to solve the difficult problem with subtitles (colour, position, synch etc) and having problem with dvd playback and compatibility.

Thanking you all for your patience reading my post and in advance for your answers.

I'm sorry you're upset that no one can give you a satisfactory answer to your question. It might simply be that no one knows the answer - I know I don't - and no one here is under any obligation to answer in any case.

A request for a suggestion for authoring software that can do what you want would be reasonable. A request for someone to TELL YOU what authoring software to use is not reasonable, and is frankly outrageous.

Please realize this is not a paid support board. We are most of us hobbyist, and I don't think any of us will respond well to demands for help.

That said, I would suggest you look into all the popular commercial authoring softwares discussed here in the forums, and choose for yourself based on their advertised feature sets. All of them should be capable of producing playable DVDs that don't freeze (and how silly of you to even ask that).

What i can do is to tell you, that at least Maestro and Scenarist do

1) author NTSC-DVDs
2) import separate streams like m2v, ac3 and subtitles,
3) author working DVD’s having chapters, menues, ...

But i don't know, what format your subs are (txt,bmps,streams,..), and if above prgs can use them then.

Good luck

Thank you atimoc for your suggestions.

Unfortunately this programs are very very difficult even to locate.

And really expensive too !!

Thank you anyway.

As for Kedirekin, if you are soooo smart that you know that all Authoring programs produces DVDs that dont freeze on standalone then y dont you try to give a simple answer or sujestion on my problems ?

I know that all here are hobyist and i really appreciate them.

Is types like you that destroys the spirit of helpfull forums.

dahhh.

Have you tried creating DVD's without subs on them, and if so do they have any problems on your standalone, if so what about other standalones?

Have you tried your created DVD's (with subs)in more than one standalone, if so do these have the same problems?

I'm not a guru with subs or NTSC, as I am in PAL land and never use subs (wouldn't even know how put subs in), but maybe in answering these questions it may narrow the problem so those that may know may be able to help you.

You sound as though you are really up against the wall! I can identify with that.

I went through a long series of trial and error before I ever got satisfactory results using some of the methods you say you have tried.

Before DVD2One & DVDShrink came along, my method of choice was to use DVD2AVI to demux the audio for a movie, then use TMPGenc to recode the video and finally use the latest version of IFOEdit to author the results onto a DVD. This provided a pretty good (this is a subjective judgement) product that I was satisfied with.

I'm not sure why you're not trying DVDShrink, but you may want to consider it since it comes up with a pretty good product in a rapid amount of time.

DVD2One provide a good product if you're not having to compress to too great a ratio and does it faster and handles things like angles a little more intuitively than DVDShrink (in my opinion).

All the DVDs I own are NTSC region 1, so we're on the same sheet of music.

Good Luck!

Edit*************

I don't ever keep subtitles!

Yes i have tried that but the result was audio and video out of synch. You mentioned that you had this in a case.

Did you find the cure?
