View Full Version : Frameserve failure with WinXp, tmpgenc, and cce

Trying to troubleshoot a problem w/winXP and vfapi.

Frameserving from TMPGENC via vfapi to either virtual
dub, nandub, or cce, I'm running into a frameserve
failure problem (posting here because the primary
encoder I want to use is cce 2.62)

No error is ever reported, but the frames simply do
not get serve : I get nothing but black screens.

This happens both with natively source tmpgenc video
as well as video frameserved into tmpgenc.

any ideas? I've tried reinstalling tmpgenc, vfapi,
the avifile support from virtualdub, and pretty much
anything else that you can install or reinstall.

thanks !

There are quite a few earlier posts that discuss the problems frameserving to cce v2.62

I believe the general consensus was that most people are now using v2.50 or earlier because of the frameserving problems.

I only use v2.62 when encoding directly from a miniDV (camcorder) compressed AVI, it works very well for that purpose.

The same EXACT software setup works flawlessly under
windows 98.

An example setup is (for a digisat video capture) :

Virtualdub frameserving a mjpeg source file to
a .vdr pointer. Tmpgenc reads the .vdr pointer and
IVTC is performed along with a 480x480 resize.

The resultant .tpr project is vfapi'd into a .avi file
which loads perfectly into CCE and encodes.

Under XP, the process also works as designed, except
I get black frames and the frameserve never actually
happens.

It gets weirder though : if, under CCE, I go into the
source edit window, I can manually SCROLL the video and
the frameserve works.

And to throw even MORE wood on the fire : I get the same exact failure using nandub in place of cce OR
using CCE 2.50.

It has GOT to be something either in XP or VFAPI but
I can't figure out what it is.

I don't know if this is related at all, but I'm having a somewhat similar problem. I have an MPEG1 file (or MPEG2 -- same result) that I want to frameserve to TMPG. (I don't read the MPEG1 directly in TMPG because TMPG doesn't do it right.) I can frameserve from a .vdr file, but a .avs file gives me a green screen -- all frames are all green. But this is only in TMPG. Windows Media Player, VirtualDub, CCE, etc., all read the .avs fine. Win98SE.

Identical setup on another machine, but with Win2K, works fine.

Still scratching my head over this one. I'm frameserving from .vdr files for now, but it's s l o w .

Using DVD2SVCD 1.07 b4 and CCE 2.62 \\SSG edition I am getting a green video
Only sound is OK... Frameserver never gave any errors. Safe mode was activated, all other default settings in DVD2SVCD. Works great with TMPGEnc (default settings), but 2x slower (13hrs +) Any help would be appreciated.
