hey is there any way to analyse the video and suggest the best
possible bitrate that gives equivalent quality in divx .. im not talking abt the case of dvds .. say vcd's(mpg) and other captured media ... ive no idea what bitrate i shud encode so that i dont spoil the existing quality .. even thiugh i encode by calculating for 700MB .. it'd be nice to know whether i can encode at the same quality and mebe at lower bitrate for lower file size ...
theres no point encoding in higher bitrates when the source is not of that good quality ...

if theres any good post on this pls give alink .. i did search for it but dint find anything ...

"The info is out there".....

Cheers

EDIT: Unfortunately the direct link to the guide (which was at http://www.doom9.org/divx5.htm) has now gone! I suspect this has something to do with Doom9's recent web space saving!

The DivX 5 guide starts at http://www.doom9.org/gknot-main3.htm these days. But one could always create a 1-pass Quantizer=2 encoding without resizing. That would "maximize" quality. The b/p*f formula is designed to maximize quality for a particular file size or a particular bitrate.
