View Full Version : Suddenly, I have crappy DiVX/XViD quality...

I recently got a TV capture card (TV Wonder VE). The Multimedia Center crashes quite a bit, so I decided to try ShowShifter.

I'm not sure if either one of these two pieces of software caused the problem, but suddenly all movies encoded with Divx or Xvid look terrible (mpeg2 tv shows etc seem to be fine).

The image kind of looks like what you would see if you put your face right up in front of the TV - it almost looks like a fine wire mesh has been put up in front of the screen, and the colors are pixelated and sometimes have too much of a blue-ish tint.

I've uninstalled Divx, Xvid and ffdshow, and re-installed them, tried using each to play back the same movie (via the ffdshow codec page), and checked the Divx quality settings.

I just finished getting all the software I needed on my computer for work; I don't want to wipe and start again.

Help!

Check that you have the correct video drivers installed and that video settings are apropriate. I get best divx display with video set to 640 x 480 or 800 x 600 and 32 bit true color selected. Do not use ffdshow, and use bsplayer for rendering.

Windows might have done something nasty when you installed your new hardware.
