I'm trying to backup Pirates.. using CCE and retaining the menus and extras with some subs/languages stripped.. I opened main IFO file in IFOedit to have a look and yes, it's one of those Disney multi-PGC DVD's.. a pain in the a$$.

Can someone please explain why there are 58 PGC's for this movie/main movie IFO. The first is the movie with 17 chapters.. then 57 more PGC's, each a part of the movie all the way thru to the end.. ?? Some as little as 1 minute and others 8 minutes..

And how do i back this sucker up using CCE.. usually when i do mulit-PGC movies, I can never get proper DVD structure after re-encoding with CCE (after inserting authored VOB's back into original file structure).. all the links/menu buttons and chapters are all way off.. I kow it's due to the multi-PGC's but i've yet to get one of these backed up correctly.. Please advise. Thanks.

Itīs easy. Just use adjusted cell mode in ifoupdate.
Run CCE to all the files of the VTS file of the movie, then create in Scenarist the exact number of chapters that you have in the cells of your ifo and just run ifoupdate.
Try it !!!

But read about the adjusted cell mode in ifoupdate help

Thanks, FilipeAmadeuO... Can I do this in Maestro? I don't have Scenarist.

I think I've been using 'Maestro Mulit-PGC' in IFOupdate, which didn't work.. I think I also tried adjusted cell mode but it didn't work.. But then again, I probably failed to let Maestro know exactly how many chapters in cell in the IFO---and you are speaking of only the main title IFO, correct?? Thanks.

Finally, do you have a link to a guide? I tried the doom9's mulit-PGG guide but it uses Scenarist..

I think you can do it with Maestro !! You have to create chapters in all the cell points !! The adusted cell mode reads all the cells and assume it as cell or chapter.
What error did you get when using adjusted cell mode ??
You said that the PGC1 uses all the VOBīs ID !! Is that correct ?? And the others only uses parts of that VOBīs idīS !! Is it correct
I only know guides for scenarist !!

As for why the disc is setup like that.

It's because of the "select commentaries" by Bruckheimer and Knightley/Davenport. If you select one of those commentaries you get to pick from several chapter points or "play all". If you play all you will see that the commentaries don't cover the entire movie and jump from scene to scene. I assume each scene is it's own PCG.

These commentaries are both on the 0x85 track, which is not present in the main movie PCG.

Thanks, wmansir and FilipeAmadeuO..

Filipe--

I guess I need to figure out how to figure out what/where and how many "cell points"..?? I know only very, very basics of IFOedit.. Main IFO PGC1 has 17 chapters (or "Programs" in IFOedit) and 67 cells. The other 57 PGC's have 2 chapters each with 2 cells (some with 3 chptrs and 3 cells). I've used ChapterXtractor to save the 17 chapter points.. But you're saying I must save...67 chapter points due to 67 cells... ?? And how do I do that with ChapterXtractor? Then I have to figure out how to add those points in Maestro.. Ayyy... :)

And as far as VOB ID's, there are a total of 25 VOB ID's. The main movie, which is in PGC1, uses only VOB ID's 1-8.. The remaining 57 PGC's use a combination of the main movie VOB ID's (1-8) and the remaining 17 VOB ID's.. Man, this is confusing..

Here is the VTS_01 plan (ifoedit) : http://membres.lycos.fr/lamerx/VTS_01.txt

I had a lot of problem with this movie too (I'm really new to DVD auth), but I finnally succeded with scenarist.

First I ripped the PGC 1 & PGC 58. The I used CCE on PGC 1.

The trick, with scenarist, is to separate the main movie (PGC 1) by cells (67 cells).

Then you have to re-construct the whole scenario/structure (it's really long !), following IfoEdit.

1) For PGC 1, simply use the 67 cells (= VobID 1-8) of your main movie (just follow IfoEdit for the chapters).
2) For PGC 2-57, you simply need cells of PGC 1 (VobID 1-8).
Beccause VobID 9-24 are just cells of VobID 1-8 + "layer br.".
So you can replace those "layer Br." with the last cell of PGC 1 ( = Cell 1 of VobID 8), which is "Layer Br" too.

For example :
- PGC 2 is made of "Cell 4 of VobID 1" & "cell 1 of VobID 8"
- PGC 3 is made of "Cell 6 of VobID 1" & "cell 1 of VobID 8"
- PGC 12 is made of "Cell 11 of VobID 6" & "Cell 1 of VobID 1" & "cell 1 of VobID 8"
- etc...

3) For PGC 58, simply use the one you ripped.

I don't know if this could help you with Maestro, I've never used this appz...
And again, I'm really new too DVD auth. So maybe there are better/faster/easier ways to achieve this backup. For example, I really don't know if it was necessary to re-construc PGC 2-58... (I doesn't want any bonus, or any Director Comments.)

But at the end, I've got a working DVD-R (I just kept menus + main movie, French & English AC3 6ch audio, french subs).

Bye

P.S.
Here are the cell points. The format is correct for scenechap/scenarist. If you want them, just throw VTS_01_0.ifo in scenechap.

In fact it's even easier if you follow this guide http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=66320

But again... you need scenarist ;)

The ifo is a complicated one. You got 67 cell in PGC01 and more 17 cells from VOB ID 9-25 . If you want to do with ifoupdate ajusted cell mode you got to create a new ifo with 84 chapters and then let ifoupdate rearranje it.
In my opinion you can just rip all the VOB ID together and then create a new file with only 1 VOB ID and 84 chapters.

Thanks so much for your detailed help and time! But I give up. I've tried working thru this project through the holidays and do not understand the process.. Well, the same problem has re-surfaced b/c I'm trying to backup a multi-PGC episodic disc currently --> Sopranos Season 1, Disc 1, which contains 4 episodes but each has its own PGC.. so 4 PGC's.. Each PGC has ~8 chapters and each uses 8 cells and 2 VOB ID's as follows:

PGC 1: Programs: 8, Cells: 8, uses VOB-ID's: 1,5
PGC 2: Programs: 9, Cells: 9, uses VOB-ID's: 3,5
PGC 3: Programs: 8, Cells: 8, uses VOB-ID's: 2,5
PGC 4: Programs: 8, Cells: 8, uses VOB-ID's: 4,5

All epidsodes are contained in VTS_01_0.IFO:

VTS_01_1.VOB thru VTS_01_8.VOB

Oh, I've ripped the disc to my HD in File Mode with Decrypter--I have not ripped each PGC separately (IFO Mode)..

I don't even know where/how to begin tackling this project.. I want to keep menus and extras.. I will strip only couple of languages and subtitles but everything else will remain in tact.. As I said previously, I've tried backing up episodic/multiPGC DVD's before but always FAIL to have menu buttons/chapters properly correspond with one another.. Please advise..

I looked at the guide here but it uses Scenarist but I use Maestro and cannot find a detailed guide for a multi-PGC project.. Your help w/b greatly appreciated.
