I received this funny fax today at work and thought "What would all the doom9 kids reply to this ad with?" I scanned it, you can see it at

http://www.tc.umn.edu/~frye0031/images/dvd.gif

I thought I'd send him some non 720x480 movies with audio other than ac3, tell him not to change the audio, and that I want backups to play on my standalone DVD player. His ad says "new technology" and "High Digital" so he must be able to do it...

But anyway, what would all you guys send orders for? I know everyone has funnier ideas than mine, so please share :p

The ad pretty strongly implies that he's transferring analog formats (film, video tapes) to DVD.

About the only way you might trip him up is by sending him 70mm OMNI or IMAX film stock. I bet he doesn't have the equipment to handle that.

well, frankly I think your being an ass.
this "guy" probably makes his living by doing what he's doing.
it would be very humiliating to send him any of your bullcrap.
no offense.

edit: you can even tell by his ad that he needs Corel Draw or something...

How can you pretend someone not to get offended when you call him/her "an ass"?

I would send some old videos my grandma have from her childhood. I donīt know the name of the format in which they are. It is a tape with no sound that it is played in an old proyector (like cinema).

yeah, if they are in fact, good quality transfers, this is quite a valuable service that many people could enjoy.

I don't think six6 is being offensive here, or even saying his service is bad/useless. The only thing is, since he claims to be able to do so much, it could be fun to send him weird stuff. I can relate to that :D. Anyway, fax ad = spam, and spam = bad. So that gives the guy a minus point. For the rest I'd like to see the guy transfer weird stuff like some crazy ass 18fps black&white flic in some strange extinct film format.

Or we could send him a phonograph wax cylinder circa 1900 to transfer to CDDA.

Ya, you know I guess it would be funny to send that guy something...

How about we send him a long book, and be like can you put this on DVD???
I can't read the whole thing, so I was wondering if you could read it aloud and tape yourself...I even have the blank DVD-Rs.

muhahahaha

But again, he needs to get Corel Draw or photoshop something, because that add looks ugly =D

i wonder if he has a LaserDisc player, and what the quality achieved on DVD would be. I heard it being relatively tricky making good digital copies from them. We'll we dunno if he does retouching, but would be fun to watch what comes out when he does.

I would send him my brother's wedding tape on regular VHS. Then I wouldn't have to convert it and cringe every time I saw myself on screen.

Slightly off topic... I have a laserdisc player. It isn't any harder to convert laserdisc then it is to convert VHS, though getting good quality from either is tricky.
