View Full Version : MaestroSBT 2.4.3.5 and "foreign" language font

I am creating subtitles in the language that uses characters additional to the English character set (Polish).
The program that I'm using - SubCreator - has no problem creating text file with subtitles and all Polish characters. It also displays subtitles the right way. The exported .ssa file is fine, too.

Now comes the MaestroSBT ver. 2.4.3.5 part:

In the "Styles | Edit style" you can change the "Font script:" to other than "Western" font classes. For Polish, I need "Central European". When you click on "Edit & Preview" or on "Generate" the font does not change!. It doesn't show Polish characters, it shows weird characters instead. I tried to change Font script to "Greek", "Cirillic" and other (just to test) - NO DIFFERENCE.

About a year ago, when I used MaestroSBT 2.4.2, I had no problems at all!!!

Has anyone experienced same kind of problem? Is it a matter of an OS? (I use XP, I may have used Win2000 before, don't remember.) Am I missing something?

Thanks! (in advance)

Either it is problem with SSA generated with SubCreator (don't know what could it realy be :( ) or something terribly wrong with your copy of MaestroSBT. I'm using the same version and i don't have any problems at all generating polish special characters (Windows version doesn't matter i use WinXP too). I woould rather suspect SSA file. Can you post header of it here?

I found version 2.4.2 of MaestroSBT, installed and it worked fine!
I'll take your suggestion, try to download newest version from Doom9 and try again.

RobertR, Here is the header from my .ssa file.

I downloaded MaestroSBT from Doom9. Doesn't work for me...

(Robert, are you "radioactive"? If you are you know what I mean.)

Perhaps you're modifying one style, and the subtitles are using other. There's a "global" setting for the codepage in the "Settings" dialog. Try using that. If you still have no luck, post your .ssa script here up to the first three or four dialogue lines, as saved from MaestroSBT.

Thank you for quick response, guillep2k!

By the way, I'm only getting one Style called "Default". How can I create "my own" styles? Obviously the program is ready for more styles (the precedence buttons).

Sorry for this late response. I thought I had set the e-mail notification on this thread. I'm not currently reading the forum, since my free time is zero.

About your problem... I'm facing the exact same problem, except for a few character sets (symbol, arabic, hebrew). It might be a problem related to the new compiler I'm using (Visual Studio .NET) and its libraries. I couldn't manage to install the old VS6 in my Windows 2003 Server. I've been reading MS newsgroups about this characted set problem and the only hint I found is that the system local must match the desired code page in ANSI applications. Therefore, you should set the operating system's locale to Polish in Control Panel->Regional and Language Options, in both the "Regional options" tab and the "Advanced" tab ("Language for non-Unicode programs").

I hope this solution works for you. I think all this would have worked well if my program would have been Unicode from the beginning. Now it's too late to migrate it.

Guille

(Robert, are you "radioactive"? If you are you know what I mean.)

Here is the error. See the 0 at the end of the line? There should be encoding and for PL it should be 238. Probably SubCreator isn't adding info on encoding.
As for beeing "radioactive" i don't realy know what you mean so i'm probably not.
Big sorry about not answering earlier but i didn't get notification on this thread and currently i'm browsing this great forums rather ocasionally.

Thank you, Guys, for your responses!

I'm glad that the Author of the MaestroSBT confirmed what I experienced. It is not possible for me to have Windows "in Polish", since I live and work in USA. I will simply use MaestroSBT ver 2.4.2. It works for me!

Once again, thanks!
