I have problem with low volumes in movies. Both MP3 and AC3 coded movies sounds very low, i need to put the volume on the soundcard all the way up i even need to put up the volume of the reciver to get a good volume. I have no problem playing MP3 music or other wave outputs on my computer, only playing movies.

i use Media Player 9 and the AC3Filter

What can i do to make the output volume normal?

Thanks in advance,

For ac3, one way is to increase playback gain in ac3filter. For mp3, if you feel low volume then use a pregain of 16dB while encoding. (use BeSweet GUI and in OTA, second last checkbox, set pregain manual 16dB). Note that this value is arbitary, you need to find out what is optimum by trial and error.

this problem is not with encoding, its with playback. I got the same problem with dvix's and xvids realesed by groups.

you violated both: rule 1 and 6
search before asking! you will not get help on doom9 for illegally obtained material!

Come on, give the guy a break. You could hardly call this a discussion about pirated movies. As for searching, it can be difficult to get accurate results sometimes; I would consider the original question a valid one.

Plus if you look at anders@dac.se stats, you can see he joined Dec 2001 and has done quite a few posts. He's certainly aware of how to use the forum and potential solutions to his problem had they been discussed in the past.

Thanks for your concern arman68. I actually did a search on the topic before posting, and only find encoding related problems not playback problems.

@anders@dac.se,
Sorry man, I was delayed due to bond's post. I think you are a one of the seniormembers knowing all the rules and regulations of this forum.:)

Regarding your problem, the problem can be due to wrong mp3 decocder you installed in your system. (But it is a rare case, might windows own decoder is replaced by some other). So you need to re-install this filter and try again. This filter is named mpgaudio.ax.
To register type "regsvr32 mpgaudio.ax" in cli with in the filter folder.

For ac3 possible methods are either re-encoding or increasing playback gain in ac3filter.

Thanks.
I'll havent installed any other decoder than the standard one in Win XP. But some aplication could have done it for me, strange that i get the same problem after i've reinstalled Windows though (maybe its my soundcard drivers that install some crap decoder, i got a creative Audgy 2 Platinum). Will try your tips. Thanks.

By the way, maybe im senior if you look at a timeline but you've managed to post 600 posts since aug 03. Thats what i call senior :)

Edit: I cant find that file, is it ment to me shipped with Windows? Its not on my system anyway.

well, "low volume" posts are as old as the doom9 board itself, there are plenty of discussions (thanks to this thread we now have one more) were you can find answers why ac3s are low volume and how you can enhance the volume (during playback or during encoding):
and if a release group is too dumb to know how to enhance the volume of the ac3 when encoding to mp3, what should it say...

and if you cant find nice results via search the next thing someone has to do to before posting would be to check the audio faq in the audio forum, what, i am sure, anders@dac.se also didnt do...

a senior member (2001!) should know how the things are going on doom9...

Im really sorry Bond. I didnt check the audio faq, beacuse its under the audio encoder thread and this is clearly a decode/playback problem.
