23.976 Vs 29.97

Hi.
i have several movies i want to burn to dvd.
i'm using tmpgenc to convert to MPEG2. my frame rate changes to 29.97 and since the source is at 23.976, whenever there is some action and the camera moves a lot, i get a bumpy picture (not smooth as the original).
and when i tried to convert to a 23.976 MPEG2 my authoring software didn't accept it + becuase of the frame rate change i get a slight audio offsync.

Use 3:2 pulldown mode.

i did ! it made it worse !
it added wierd horizonal artifacts whenever the action quickend + my authoring software didn't accept it even then... :(

after authoring to 23.976 run pulldown on it.

but that's the funny thing - TMPG does'nt have a template for that (23.976 i mean - only 29.97 DVD).
btw...how do i keep the original ratio off the avi - where there are no black bars just the image....i would think that would save weight off the final movie - no ?
