Does this player have built in DTS Surround decoding? one of the ebay adverts seemed to indicate it does!
Also does it have DVD-Audio support?
Thanks

Thanks Unfortunately Top_Cat, until someone on the forum has acknowledged to owning one of these players, we'll never know for sure!

i guess this player is only available in spain
but
as it uses the mediatek chip you just have to look after a player that uses this chip too, also for other features like dts decoding you will only have to check if another mediatek using player can handle it
the important thing is the chip in the first place, than the firmware, than the other hardware features imho...

The Elta 8883 (http://www.elta.de/english/artikel.asp?Artikel=8883+MP4&Artikel1=8883&x=68&y=17) clearly states that it can handle DVD Audio. But unless I missed something (again), there was no mention of this with the Gran Prix!

Top Cat Yep, if I knew exactly where to obtain one of these players, I could ask my parents to bring one over to the UK when they visit us for Christmas.

I called Ascomtec today (04/12/03) and they told me that the DVD-3004 will start shipping on the 15th December.
I will see if I can get one from the Canary Islands as soon as they have it there.
All the best,
Sharro

AFAIK you can only buy the elta one online at http://shop.plus.de/is-bin/INTERSHOP.enfinity/eCS/Store/de/-/EUR/Storefront-KatalogID;sid=XlnHPXmYaE3Hi0ZIiBYGIR0eRPYx8qhaC3c=?KID=22200102&KatalogID=Z0349B at the moment. But they only ship to Germany as it seems .
EDIT: Oops....I've just realized that Doom9 had already posted that three days ago.

I found the Arcane player here that seems to have the same spec:
http://www.techstore.co.uk/browse.php?a=p&prodLineID=37803
But at £179.00 inc. VAT which seems far to high to me but I guess you get the advantage to being one of the first to own it. Anyone know anything about this player?

Why does everything in the UK have to be priced 2 times or more above everyone else? :P

It would appear that consumers in the UK have got very used, over the years, to being conned!
Thankfully things are changing!

In the UK, whether we like it or not, the Euro has helped us too.
For a time, prices of goods in all the Euro currency countries soared. However, consumers found it very easy to compare prices of the same goods across Euro countries and shop around, which helped to force both retailers and manufacturers to stabilise their prices as it's now not so easy for them to disguise the costs of their goods from one Euro country to another.
As a consequence UK consumers are also finding it easier to compare our prices against all the Euro currency countries. Which in turn has helped to encourage both retailers and manufacturers here, to either hold or lower their prices..... You could say they've been shamed into it!
I'm lucky, I'm able to travel all over Europe due to work and because I and my wife have family over there!
I still doubt though, that the bulk of our goods will ever become as low as some of the Euro countries. Which is why I bought my car in Belgium!

It could be worse, Norway isn't among everyone else. Here we pay 3 times above "everyone else" :-(

Generally I wouldn't say so... Retail prices in the shops are still very high. Online's getting better, true, but only because many companies have direct imports from the east or they do shipping from outside of UK. Whatever is imported by official channels (through offical distributers) is purposely kept on a certain level. There are some good examples of this: for instance IRiver products...
