View Full Version : Considering New DVD+/-RW Drive

I am currently considering buying a new DVD+/-RW drive to back up my current movies. I move around a lot, and often the original disk gets lost or broken. It didn't take me long to figure out that backing up to normal CD-R's doesn't really help much - if I lose one disk, I'm back to square one. Now I want to buy the new OptoRite DD0401 8x DVD+/-RW, a low-cost/seemingly high quality DVD burner. The problem is I can't find any reviews or user-based information on the device. If anyone can comment on the reliability of this drive, OptoRite, or even some of the basic fundamental compatability issues (such as HD-Burn), it would be very much appreciated. I'm a CD-R junkie. I don't know these big bad DVD burners :( . Thanks!

What you might think about is waiting until around April next year, cause that's the time the DVD-9 burners will come out. Currently only DVD-5 burners are available. I guess that prices for DVD-5 burners will dropp. Maybe you want to get one then, or maybe you want to get a DVD-9 one right away, giving you the ability to create 1:1 backups without loss of quality.
A380 I just order this drive. (http://store.yahoo.com/livewarehouse/s10dd8xdvdud.html) I though about waiting to buy a DVD-9 burner but then I thought about at least $400 (US) and at least $40 for one blank. I'll pass. But thats just my option.
