I recently just heard of this codec called eyeris. The video it produces plays through java so it seems to work like on2's vp5 for java. Other than the website, eyewonder.com (http://eyewonder.com), I can't find any other relevant info like to see how this codec compares with the other major streaming codecs on the net.
The company also seems to act like on2 in the sense that they don't hand out trial version of there software initially. Maybe Doom9 can get his hands on this codec the same way he got vp4 way back or maybe "they want just commercial users.. large corporations who want to stream video via their servers" and maybe that's how they got the stats on being "the third most streamed format in 2002".
Well i'm just going to let and see if they release a trial to public.
