View Full Version : Is there a way to make menuedit automatically select a button?

Right now on DVD's that have both widescreen and fullscreen versions of a movie I delete the fullscreen button so only the widescreen version can be played. This works great, the original structure of the DVD is retained and it is very easy to do.

I was thinking that it would be even nicer if there was a way to modify the menu so that the widescreen button would be automatically selected. This way the screen format menu would be shown, the widescreen version would be automatically selected and then the movie would start.

I think I saw this option talked about here as button hold over or something to that effect. Does anyone know how to do this? Or has it been implemented into menuedit?

Thanks,
Bill

I have a registered MenuEdit and if you go to your button's edit options, you'll see a "auto" checkbox. This sets your button's auto action flag in the NAV Packs. A check will set flag to "1" which is yes and "0" for no if unchecked. So if this button is selected during play without being pressed, it will auto activate.

Now, I tried to dabble in this and gave up because of a limitation. Say, I want to auto activated my default highlighted button when the menu pops up. Just because the button is highlighted, you'll still get no auto action. You would have to jump to another button and back to activate the button you have set to auto action. :(

MenuEdit doesn't have the change options for these button highlights settings yet.:( It's be a b***h to change them all if you had motion menus.

force select button number : Sets default button upon menu display
force action button number :

You can find these values in VOBedit with button checkbox checked. Scroll down to Bytes [00a1] and [00a2].

Hi 2COOL, thanks for your reply. I'll try using vobedit and let you know how it went.

Hi 2COOL, I tried your recommendation with vobedit and had no luck. The menu only has 2 buttons. Button 1 (widescreen) is the default button. When looking at the vob with vobedit it says, force select button number = 1, and force action button number was = 0. I changed the force action button number to 1, but when I play the menu, button 1 is not automatically activated. Any ideas? Have you used this force action feature with other menus and had it work?

Thanks,
Bill

You would have to play with the Pre Commands or previous commands for you to avoid the aspect ratio and setting the right register to a certain value. I pretty much gave up on auto action. :(

As most people here (all?), I've never seen actual dvd specs. (You are supposed to cut your tongue out after you read them :) )

What MenuEdit does is based on the info I've got from the net and by playing with various DVD players.

It is not a problem to provide access (change in all NavPacks) these fields:
Highlight start time
Highlight end time
Button selection end time (ignore user after this)
starting button number
force select button number
force action button number

Problem is - I've never found a good way of using these (in old days when MenuEdit just started).

Are you sure these two do what you think they should? If so I should probably play with them again. :)

About auto action flag: It does not work when menu pop-ups - or, let's put it this way: playing with above mentioned fields I have not found a way of doing it.

@baddbill
I think 2COOL's sugesstion to bypass this menu, is the way to go for you. Why would you want it flushing on the screen.

Thanks Dimad, I appreciate your response. The problem with changing precommands and gpreg's is that it is very time consuming to figure out and then they don't always work. I have found it much easier and a lot faster to just delete the button I don't want with menuedit.

Thanks for such a great program.
