OK, this one might be a little weird, but I have my reasons.
What I'm trying to do is reauthor the entire menu structure of a dvd without changing the movie VOBs at all (except for renaming). I mean, I want the movie VOBs to be byte-for-byte identical to how they were on the original (like I said, I have my reasons). DVDlab seemed like it might enable me to do this since it accepts VOB files as assets and says that they're not changed. Unfortunately, a file comp reveals that DVDlabs does modify the files at least slightly when it compiles a dvd. What's interesting though is that if I replace the new VOBs with the orignals and hit GetVTS, IfoEdit doesn't change anything. Even if I do a create Ifo files on the original and new files separately, the resulting Ifo files are identical. This leads me to suspect that I might be able to author the entire DVD and then replace the new movie VOBs with the orignals.
What I'm wondering of course is if the resulting DVD is going to work correctly. I've only done tests with small files and limited menu structure so I could determine whether I should spend the time with DVDlab redoing the entire disc. I don't have any idea really how much of what kind of data about the specifics of the VOBs is stored in IFO files. If IFOEdit sees the files as close enough to identical to not change anything, what are the chances of problems arising with the disc?
