hello everyone, great forum. :)

i have found no solution for my problem, so here it goes: my dvd-standalone toshiba sd210e has problems with my dvd-backups.

i use dvd-decrypter -> dvd-shrink 3ß5 -> nero 6.0.0.23 -> nec nd1100 to make backups of dvd-movies and tried verbatim dvd+r & dvd+rw and intenso dvd+rw. when i play the dvds in power-dvd 5.0 its all fine but my dvd-standalone does not even accept the dvd+rw and plays the dvd+r with jumps, freezings and makes noise during play (like the noise when the head of the drive is searching).

encoding is all fine, i have a duron 1.3, 512mb ram, harddrive c has 5 gb free and drive f (for encoding) is alone on sec master
with 90 gb free. the nec nd1100 was delivered with firmware "1.A002626" and i also tried the hacked firmware "1H0", which supports the setting "dvd-book-compatibility" but led to the same poor results.

it seems the problem is my dvd-standalone but its certified for dvd+rw and had no problems with vcd, svcd in the past. some guys here
said the toshiba sd210e works fine with dvd+rw, espacially with media from verbatim - so im wondering whats the problem. :confused:

Things to try.

1. make an image of your files and burn that.
2. Try different media, or burn at a slower speed.

Sounds like a media problem

Buy one decent RW disc and try that.

Some standalones are very fussy about what they will play anyway, and if yours is then there may not be much you can do about it

@Loomes

Are you sure that each time you burn, your DVD burner is set to the DVD ROM book setting? Many burning softwares that support this feature don't automatically select this as its formating choice. To make sure, you might try downloading DVDINFOPRO (there's a free version of it that's ad-supported -- but won't give you pop-up after pop-up while you're on the Net *at least, my version doesn't*). This program will allow you to set DVD ROM as your player's default, meaning that once you set it, you can forget about it: It'll be automatic from that point on. I beleive Nero requires you to set this each time you load a new disk... I may be wrong, though (I haven't used Nero in some time, prefering to use CopytoDVD instead). After using DVDINFOPRO, however, you won't have to worry about it, since it's automatically the method your burner will use each time you load recordable media.

So long as your processed DVD files work fine in your software player -- and the recorded disks themselves play fine on your burner -- I'd think it safe to assume it's a compatibility issue between your set top and your media. Using good-quality media's a good step, but I'd suggest trying DVDINFOPRO first, and see if that clears things up for you.

Good luck to you!
