Hi,

Can someone point me to some resource or some help in setting up a process to import DV files /export AVI files from Premiere 6.5 ?

I am a newbie and have been looking around the best settings that need to be made to import home made movies on my miniDV camcoder. Also once all the editing is done in Premiere 6.5 what should I do to export the movie to an MS AVI file so that I can later use DVD2SVCD to convert the AVI to SVCD etc. I have already installed MainConcept DV Codec V2.4.4 to be used with Premiere 6.5 instead of MS DV Codec.

Any help will be appreciated.

Thanks in advance.
Amit

I don't understand the first part of your question. You might want to make that more clear.

However, I think I have good news for the second part. Go to www.debugmode.com and download the free pluginpak frameserver and learn to use it. You will note an option to "write audio as PCM samples to signpost". Use that option and wait for it to complete. It will take a while as all of the audio will be be actually added to the signpost.AVI instead of the audio being served with the video. This will allow you to use the signpost.AVI as the source for Avi2svcd without the need to create an intermediate file :) The frameserver will serve the video to avi2svcd as requested and the audio will be available too.

BTW, you will leave Premiere running in the background, but you may minimize it.

@DDogg

Sorry about the delay in replying. The solution you provided did work.

Now to understand the issue better can you shed some light on the following questions:

Q1) When I export the movie from the Timeline using a DV Codec and setting the DV code to return all the luminance 0..255 I did not get the same result as I got from frame serving. Why?

Q2) When I export the movie from the Timeline using a DV Codec and setting the DV code to return the luminance 16..240 I did not get the same result as I got from frame serving. Why? When the luminance in the picture is reduced to match TV using the DV Codec why the result was worst? Was it because the codec is not doing a good job or there are multiple conversions happening like codec converting to TV scale and AVI2SVCD converting it back to 0..255 and then back to 16..235?

Thanks for helping me out here.
