Just wondered if anyone has tried the new RecordNow from Sonic for DVD movie burning? I'm currenlty using the old Stomp 4.5 and not sure if its worth upgrading. Thanx!

Hmm, I too haven't seen much info on their latest product. I tried both, Stomp RecordNow Max 4.5 and Sonic RecordNow DX 4.6. I found that Stomps 4.5 seem to be better. Sonic only has the option for UDF/ISO with Joliet for data disk. Where with Stomp you can have UDF/ISO with or without Joliet. Only if Sonic added that would I consider the latest product.

I came to the same conclusion...

RecordNow Max 4.5 does what it needs to do quite well. I won't be trying out any 'upgrades' until I've read some positive reviews about them & they bring some additional value to what I'm using now.

The main problem is that there isn't even a demo! The screen shots show a 'childish' looking interface too. I too need to see some positive reviews...

I got RecordNow Max and love it!! I've never been a Nero or Roxio fan and have been using Prassi PrimoDVD for the last 2 or so years and never had a coaster after 100 or so DVDs. Unfortunately Prassi was getting old and not recognizing things well so I was forced to switch. After trying Nero and Roxio and getting a coaster or two, I picked up RecordNow and am glad I did; it's keeping me coaster free.

Yeah, I do agree that the GUI is a bit childish, but it works great. Some of the "upgrades" from Prassi include: burning from ISO images, setting your DVD volume, better mechanisms for file and folder selections and better recognition of newer equipment.

I was able to take a look at the new Sonic RecordNow Max Deluxe 6.5.
Its isn't better than version 4.6, its worse.

->It still forces you to use UDF/ISO with Joliet for all data disk.
->It doesn't let you select the speed you want to burn at in the main screen, only in the options menu.
->Very few options you can change and set.

I only checked it out for a few minutes and saw every reason not to waste any more time with it. Sonic has taken a great product and ruined it.

I heard it's worse too. They got rid of joilet or something like that and interface isn't that great. The reviews I read said stick w/ 4.5 or 4.6

I too am a recordnowmax fan (version 4). Recently I bought a new CD -RW for 1 of my machines, and it's not supported by recordnowmax.

I really want to upgrade my DVR-103 to a A06 but not at the expense of being forced to use Roxio or Nero.

Anybody know where to fing a new compatibility list, the stomp website's is dated 2002.

well I've got it and tried it now for about 2 weeks this is what are my conclusions:
1-it will uninstall any other burning softwares(nero-easycd-dvd creator-etc..)
2-well that's better because i,ve never been satisfied with the others.
3-yes this is the ultimate burner especially for dvd.i use to have problems burning dvd's spercially the princo dvd-rs but nomore.i had about 20 princo dvd-rs that i thought they are damaged and wanted to throw away, not anymore they all work now with sonic record now max 6.5
4-you don't have to choose what to do sonic will recognize automatically if it's a dvd or svcd or vcd.and it will do the job as it should be done.
5-just one thing to do in the settings choose one track-closed.and your dvd's will be compatible with all the top players in the market.
6-it comes with avery cd-dvd-labeler which is superb.
7-in conclusion i've never been satisfied with a burning software like this one

There's a bit of confusion here. Are Recordnow Max and Recordnow DX the same? Why would you (DMagic1) upgrade Recordnow Max from the Sonic site? Doesn't Stomp make it and not Sonic?

As far as I know:
RecordNow DX = Veritas = OEM
RecordNow MAX = Stomp = retail

RecordNow Max was originally Stomps. Sonic bought RecordNow Max. That is why RecordNow Max 4.5 and RecordNow DX 4.6 are almost identical. Sonic changed a few setting for its DATA disk though. They use the same engine which is why I can update the pxengine from Sonics site. As I said, Stomp sold RecordNow so they don't provide updates of the pxengine anymore. Stomps last update was something like #358 months ago. Sonics update is now #507.
