I burned several those sonix 4x brought from supermediastore.com with my SONY 500a, all had problems of freezing during playback. No errors were reported during recording, however, only during playback.

So can someone else confirm this sonix is a brand of crap?

I've never heard of that brand...I'd be wary of trying a totally new DVD-R brand...most of them stink.

Stick with Ritek and possibly DupEZ.

As of now, the Sonix are the only dvd-r disk I have found that will burn at 4x with my Sony everytime. Yes the play back quality is so far the worst I have seen as compared to other disk. My opinion is kinda limited though since I only have one other 4x burn to compare them to. I was only able to get an Optodisk to burn at 4x once, only once. Its playback quality seemed a lot better than the Sonix. Riteks wont burn at 4x for me. I have no problems so far in the dvd players I have tried except my XBOX with the Sonix. They play but sometimes I get freezing on my XBOX.

Can you guys get the manufacturer id of those sonix discs? So we know exactly who is making them.

Load up DVD Decrypter > Mode>ISO>Write

Cheers.

regarding the Sony burners, I tend to think that it's not so much the burner but something else that prevents 4x burning. I have a DRU500a and I've never had any problems burning any 4x rated disc at 4x. These days I'm burning a lot of G04s at 4x. But, if you're into the minus format you should really shell out the money to get some major brand media.. there is a lot of crap in the minus market.

Yeah, that why I tried Ritek G04s too. Still no 4X with them. I just don't understand how so many ppl with the same drive, and same firmware get so many different compatiably with the same disk.

Btw, Doom9 are you running XP with SP1 or no?

Regarding Dupez.
I bought a 50 pack and returned them right away.
I found them to be total crap.
4 out 4 coasters. All had in excess of 180 errors in
DVDINFO tests.

Same day, same video, Ritek media 0 coasters, 0 errors.

I have never had a problem with my Sony 500A burning at 4X if
I used Recordnow Max. If I used Nero 5 or 6 they would say they
were burning at 4X, but they really only burned at 2X.
