I notice some strange looking vertical bars appearing at specific intervals across the screen while watching tv programs with my tv-tuner card. These artifacts were not present when I was using my analog tv. (Refer to the image below to clarify what I mean)

What could have been the likely cause and how could I remove them ?
Any form of assitance would be appreciated. Thanks !

I don't recognize the particular artifacts, but the likely cause is RF interference. Sometimes it's obviously RF interference ... for example, when it happens on only a few channels rather than all channels. But usually, if it happens in the PCI tuner but not an external tuner, it's inside-the-PC RF interference.

RF interference is very common using PCI capture card tuners. It can be caused by almost anything inside the computer ... such as other PCI cards, the PCI bus itself, motherboard components, fans, etc.

Sometimes, moving the PCI card to another slot can reduce the interference, because the card is further away from the interference source. But the usual solution is to use an external tuner, such as a VCR or cable box, to convert the RF signal to analog video/audio for capture. Another solution is to use an external capture device.

Thanks for your help, jggimi !

Currently I'm using a vcr as an external tuner, feeding a composite video signal into TV-Card for video capture and viewing.

I will try out what you've suggested and see how it goes.

Have a nice day! :)
