First Player with Qpel Support ?

The elta 8883, wich is aready on sale at ebay Germany, seems to support all pro features of DivX5 including qpel.
There are rumors that it does not use a Sigma or ESS Chipset.
Anybody know a bit more about it ?

It the Elta 8883 does not seem to be listed even on Elta's website. All I could find was info about an 8882; -

I can't even find the player on elta's homepage. Can you? I guess I'll email them and ask for details. Considering all the crap you can buy on ebay (sickpack anyone?) I'm a bit sceptical to trust anything that comes from there. I'd take an official datasheet over ebay any day of the week.

for the Philips with ESS chip,the documentation specifies that there is no support for QPel and GMC in Divx but there is a support for "Advanced Simple Profile" for MPEG4 so i suppose if Xvid is fully MPEG 4 compliant there is a support for QPel and GMC in Xvid according to xvid.org (Advanced Simple Profile (ASP): I/P Frames, B-Frames, Interlacing, Quarterpel, GMC).
can someone can confirm that?

well.. since DivX's implementation of QPel and GMC doesn't go as far as the ASP standard, I doubt that if the chip can't handle the DivX implementation that it's able to handle the full implementation as present in XviD.

I followed up on the pdf they sent me, specifically asking for GMC, B-Frame and Qpel support. The answer was: yes, the player can do all that, including DivX Pro.

doom9 will probably obtain more detailed information ... funny that it is already available on ebay.

I asked about ebay as well.. specifically why someone should wait for the official launch and if those units are somehow inofficial, beta, etc.
I've also inquired about subtitles and alternative containers.
Now according to the datasheet the player does all kinds of xvcd and xsvcd, mp4 (there's an mp4 logo.. no idea if that means the container or mpeg4 video in avi), there's a wma logo (but the capabilities are not listed in the feature list). However, the feature list mentions DVD-Audio yet I see no DVD audio Logo. Honestly, I think that datasheet is a patchwork and we might see an update one until the release data.
Interestingly enough I don't see any DivX or XviD logos on the player, and I guess that means no DivX certification. Why I can only guess, after all now DXN has a reason to go for the super certification. And considering the ebay price, I'd pay that in a heartbeat for a player that supports MPEG-4 ASP.

quickie update: the invisible parts of the PDFs are a flaw, I now got a corrected datasheet. The used chipset (they wouldn't tell me the name) is indeed capable of handling MPEG-4 ASP, also including support for interlaced (eww) content. I still haven't gotten answers to many of my questions but the guy I wrote to is going away for a few days so I have yet another followup contact where I'll try to get some more info.

I heard rumors (again only rumors ;)) that Players with a DivX capable MediaTek chipset should be available around christmas.
Maybe thats the chipset.
I think i buy one, but 205 Euro is not exactly cheap. I fear the price drops extremly if its offically released.

i know that philips was working on such an asp chip and that they wanted to release it first in non-philips products (so they dont get wet if something goes wrong :D )
