I am totaly lost now. I had a perfect system that used dvdcrypter, dvd shrink if I needed it and burnt with Nero 5 with the ao4. I put in a AO6 went to nero 6 and took out a cd burner and added a 120 gig drive where the cd burner was.
I used to test my burns on a Apex AD-500 , then the Panasonic Dmr-e20 and a Panasonic DVD-RV31. I took a couple of these to work and they play on a new Toshiba 1800 but wont play past the title screen on the e20 or RV31 the fact that they load to the menu and won't go anywhere is beyound me
When Nero 6 kept returning cannot complete disk at once "funny cause the disk will play" I went back to Nero 5 after cleaning the uninstall with their utility.
Everything will not play in anything but the Apex now and sometimes a disk that played 10 minutes ago wont play now but will play in 5 minutes.
So to test the a06drive I tried 321xcopy first time it goes to 90% and says cannot open cd-r iinterface....????selected interface not supported. then it complained that it cant find the DVD drive thats funny cause it just ripped a dozen files off the drive. the third time I set the burn engine to nero and just get burn failed after 90% or so,I tried two dvd-rw's that worked before. I have a dvd-r in it as I write this
Anybody see any thing in this mess that I missed. Tommorrw I am going to take out the A06 and put the four back in the only thing left would be take out the 120 gig drive.
I am using the same media I have used for a year with no issues.and they will play in consumer decks when i get past the burn failurs which are occuring on 3 different types of media and 4 different brands.
This thing is about to whip me
Later guys

What is your setup, Host:? ID:?, master, slave, settings-jumpers? Is CMOS set fot auto-detection or something else?
If possible try the ao6 in a diff system, or take out the new HD and burn without it. The easiest solution is to exchange the ao6 for a new one. If the new one works your rollin, if not, time to start callin in favors.
The problem with standalone compatibility could be something as simple as an open session or closed session dvdr. I believe you should always burn movies "Track at Once (TAO) Closed", and make sure your file system is "UDF with Joliet". Some picky players will not play an open session disc.
The problem with movies playing, stopping, and playing 5 minutes later could be attributed with Dvdshrink. I'm not saying this always happens, but have had the exact symptoms with extremely picky players when dvdshrink was used.

Intrestingly enough I just burnt two in a row with CloneDVD one title was reatuthered with DVDShrink 2. the other normal shrink with DVDShrink3beta5.
All were ripped with DVDcrypter
They both play fine in all three consumer decks. One of which is a recorder also the Panasonic DMR-E20.
I am now on my third title. All of which I been working on for a week.
The A06 is on Ieee channel 1 as the master E:
The 120 gig maxtor is on channel 1 as a slave F:
Two other HD's are on Channel 0 as master and slave. c: and D:
the first movie mentioned above was storred on Channel 0 HD D:
The second movie was stored on Channel 1 HD F:
CMOS is on Autodetect
Nero kept complaining that it "could not complete track at once"
321 studios xcopy did not say what it did not like after going for 98 % I suspect that as I was using the nero engine it was probebly the same issue. the other two engines "default" and " whatever it was" did not even start a burn. The beauty of CloneDVD is it seems to have a great routine to check the quality of the disk "BEFORE IT WASTES 45 MINUTES BURNING IT OR TRYING TO" it spit out one last night and one this morning. So the media is 2 for 2 so farIt appears that I need to check all my media in the DMR-E20 to see if it will read before I put it in the computer.
..........www.shop4tech.com is coing to get a call later. I sent back a spidle of 100 two weeks ago and they assured me that they would send the same kind I had ordered the time before this time. Well they look the same.........I am going to runDVDinfo on
So it seems that we have an issue with Nero. I have used their utility and wiped the regitry after the uninstall of Nero 6 so if anyone has any idea what this "cannot complete disk at once" error is please feel free to jump right in .

what version of nero 6??
some of them don't work (at least 3 of the releases fail)
make sure you have 6.0.0.23 installed
that is the latest release, and I know that to be working!
(I always use stomp recordnowmax v4.5 for burning movies
as it produces the most compatable results in standalone players)

It is never advisable to put the burner on the same ide channel as the hard drive. If you don't have a raid MB then you may want to get an ATA/133 card and put the hard drive on that and leave the burner as the only device on channel 1.

Additional info,
After 10 burns with no issues I am really looking with a jaded eye at Nero............
Clone DVD is the boss.
I seem to have no problems burning from F:, or C: and D: now that I am using CloneDVD. Works great, however it looks a little simple but I can't fault it for that.I realy like the error routine it runs before burning that spits out margional media.
What kind of problems should I look for I can always swap my fat drive for the D drive on the other channel.
I keep hearing that burner and drives on same channel are a problem but no body ever says what seperating them cured.
The only hassle I am haveing now is the fact that nero wont "complete disk at once" and it fails no matter what drive I am sourcing form.
Ok Later bud

I'm not an expert but I will try to explain the best I can. When you have a hard drive and burner on the same channel you have both reading and writing going on, on the same i/o port. This can some times cause data colision or i/o conflict. This is expecially true when your c drive is on the same channel as the burner because other apps or just the operating system itself is trying to access the drive at the same time the burn is in progress. By having the hard drive the burning data is on, on a seperate channel you are using seperate i/o paths which will eliminate data path conflicts.

It seems that my CloneDVD is working flawlessly from channel 0 slave D: and channel 1 F: drive to the burner on E:
I hardly ever store anything to be burnt on C:
I have burnt from D and F without a glitch with Clone DVD.
The only problem I have had is after the files are finsished it seems
that Nero can complete it's "Disk at once" routine. After getting to 100% complete. Which of course is another Nero issue it always says it's done and takes another two minutes befroe it's really through. But I digress
That is the real issue here.
I tried to burn from D and it gave the same error both Nero 5 and 6
Clone DVD has not errored out once, except when it does not like the media ........and it tells you within the first 60 seconds to put in a better disk.
Anyway thanks for the reply
