Well, I dont think that Avisynth is really the culprit, but more some external components needed to run it, since VDubmod wont work anymore also. But lets start from the beginning:
Last night when I was refreshing my .avs loaded in VDubmod 1.541 it suddenly crashed. The script was pretty simple because I just started and wanted to apply cropping, only mpeg2dec3dg and decomb used so far.
When I tried to restart VDubMod an error msg about Serious Runtime Error occured. From that moment on I wasnt able to start VDubmod anymore and Avisynth always gives an error msg: "Avisynth: Script open failed!", even when using just version().
I already tried the standards like reinstall, clearing registry, also installed VDubMod 1.511a and 1.413 and Avisynth 2.08 but none of them worked. VirtualDub 1.57 runs fine though.
What else can I say... running WinXP SP1 on 1,8GHz P4 with 1GB RAM

Thanks for your help

btw: Life just sucks without Avisynth :(
edit: wth am I seeing this typos always after hitting submit...

I suggest you start with emptying your AviSynth plugin dir :)

do you have any ".avsi" scripts in your plugins dir?

i had this problem earlier only to find it was an error in one of my own scripts...

any .avsi (and possibly just avs depending on your setup) files in the plugins directory are preloaded by avisynth whenever it is started (virtualdubmod is linked into avisynth, so if avisynth doesn't load it wont).

but yeah, emptying the plugins directory and putting them back in 1 by 1 will help you isolate the culprit.
