I started out with an HP210i from OfficeMax. This drive had almost 100% failure rate on "Kypermedia" disks advertised with this drive. I know these dvd+r's are junk. I then bought some HP DVD+r 2.4x and had less problems but still produced too many "coasters."

I brought the drive back to OfficeMax and exchanged it for an HP300i (mfg. date May '03). This drive showed up as 300n on my computer for some reason. I had problems getting this drive to write at 4x on Memorex DVD+r 4x disks.

I tried several fixes then finally brought the 300i back and exchanged it for a new HP300i. This one looks different than the original 300i ( the interior plastic is a different color the metal casing is different ). It showes up as 300c on my computer. This drive seems to work fine at 4x. Out of 4 burns I had one bad disk (an HP2.4 dvd+r). I use DVDxCopyExpress. I usually cut and paste the xpress files into a new folder and use Nero 6.0 Ultra to burn. On the one failure with this drive I let DVDxCopy Express use it's internal burner-probably a mistake.

Now, my HP software can not find an HP drive on my system. When I exchanged the 300i I only exchanged the drive, I kept my original documentation and software (thinking it was the same). I called HP and get this - they are not only going to send me updated software but also another drive. When I asked why another drive (since I think my current 300i is ok) the tech. said it was to make sure I had the correct drive & software.

What's up with the HP300i's??????

hi and welcome to the forum,

thanks a lot for this information, surely some members are going to highly appreciate if they are considering buying this drive.

since they are more likely to look into the dvd burning forum,
i'm going to move this thread there!
